President Chen Xiaohong Attends Unveiling Ceremony of Sub-center of Basic Science Center of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)

In the morning of November 1, the unveiling ceremony of Basic Science Center of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) (Sub-center in Shanghai Jiaotong University) was grandly held in Shanghai Jiaotong University; Yang Zhenbin, Party Secretary of Shanghai Jiaotong University and Chen Xiaohong, HUTB President and CAE Academician, were present in the ceremony.

Mr. Yang highly affirmed Ms. Chen’s contributions and extended his sincere thanks to her generous help. He believes that the project of Basic Science Center of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) is one of the highest-profile science fund projects sponsored by NSFC as of today, is of remarkable strategic leadership, technological originality and frontier breakthrough capacity, and is an important measure to implement the innovation-driven development strategy. The establishment of the Sub-center raises higher requirements and newer challenges to Shanghai Jiaotong University in taking the initiative to serve significant national development strategies. In the future, Shanghai Jiaotong University will future deepen cooperation with relevant co-development units, spare no effort to promote in-depth multidisciplinary integration based on the significant strategic demands of national ecological civilization construction and high-quality economic growth, and better serve the national socioeconomic development.

Ms. Chen and Mr. Yang unveiled the nameplate for Basic Science Center of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) (Sub-center in Shanghai Jiaotong University), and Ms. Chen was employed as chief professor of SJTU-UNIDO ISID Joint Institute. In her following speech, Ms. Chen Xiaohong extended her thanks to Shanghai Jiaotong University for concern for the Sub-center and for cultivating and providing numerous outstanding talents for national industrialization construction and sci-tech development, and expected to impel Basic Science Center to focus on “stranglehold” technologies, cultivate original achievements, devote great energy to addressing national difficulties and pain points in the field of resources and environment, and endeavor to make significant contributions to theories and application.
The National Basic Science Center of “Resource and Environment Management Theories and Application in the Era of Digital Economy” which is directed by Ms. Chen is engineered to centralize and integrate domestic high-quality scientific research resources, target international science frontiers, fully exert the advantages and features of the science fund system, produce a batch of international-leading original achievements, occupy the commanding height of international scientific development, build academic highlands with important international impacts, constantly provide solutions to and suggestions of major realistic issues on national resource and environment safety management in the era of digital economy, and enhance the comprehensive improvement of smart management level and management theories of China’s resources and environment.

Ms. Chen also attended the Global Cities Forum undertaken by Shanghai Jiaotong University, and made a keynote report titled “Modernization Strategies of Green and Smart City Governance in the Era of Digital Economy” in the Forum. She also exchanged views and had discussions with academic, government and industry guest from China, USA, France, Great Britain, Japan, Korea, Australia, Singapore, Canada, Denmark and Hong Kong, and was highly acclaimed.
It is a long-cherished wish of all the faculty and staff and students to realize the "Three-upgrade Strategy" goal in an all-round way and build it into a domestic first-class high-level university with outstanding contributions. President Chen Xiaohong leads the scientific research teams of HUTB, precisely targets urgent demands of major national strategies, and keeps overcoming difficulties by cooperating with “double first-class” universities and large enterprises and public institutions, and effectively push forward the “summit highland” of discipline construction and scientific research “premiumisation”, which will have positive and profound impacts.
