President Chen Xiaohong Gives Special Lecture to Students of Academician Excellence Class

On October 27, Chen Xiaohong, HUTB President and CAE Academician, gave a special lecture with the theme of Frontier Trends and Research Innovation in the Era of Digital Economy to the students of academician excellence class in the LectureHall of the Economic Management Complex. All the students ofthe 8 academician excellence classes (academician excellence classes of big data and AI, of digital economy and of smart management) from Institute of Big Data and Internet Innovation, School ofComputer Science and Information Engineering and School ofMathematics and Statistics, faculty representatives from the schools, and heads of Party Committee Office and Principal Office, Academic Affairs Division, Student Affairs Division and so on listened to the lecture. The lecture was presided over by Vice President Liu Guoquan.
President Chen Xiaohong gave an in-depth elaboration on the three aspects in the era of digital economy, namely, opportunities and challenges, integrative application of emerging information technologies, andresearch innovation and talent growth, and analyzed the current development status, crucial significance and general trends of the global digital economy.Inaddition, she emphatically introduced basic concepts, main features, development processes of big data, blockchain, AI, 5G, quantum computing, VR, digital twin and other key frontier technologies, and gave vivid and detailed explanations of classical application cases at home and abroad.
President Chen encouraged students to master research patterns in the era of digital economy proactively, insist on the problem-oriented and demand-driven principle, cultivatedata thinking, actively acquaint themselves with the realistic demands of the state, governments and society, lay a solid research foundation through active participation in project researches and social practices, conduct exploration and innovation by applying new research methods, and thus make their own contributions to China’s goal of becoming a technological power. She hoped that the students could establish patriotism, worship heroes and scientists, learn from Qian Xuesen, Deng Jiaxian, Yuan Longping, Zhong Nanshan and other national heroes who have made remarkable contributions, be noble “scholars”, diligent and strong “fighters”, passionate “explorers” and warm “transcenders”.
With warm atmosphere during exchange and interaction, students were eager to ask questions centering on algorithm learning, enterprise and industry chain transformation, blockchain technology development, digital RMB, etc.; President Chen answered their questions one by one patiently, and encouraged them to stay hungry, keep thinking and exploring, and make every effort to become excellent pillarsof society.
