HUTB Attends Launching Ceremony of Hunan Poverty Alleviation through Consumption Month and Signs Purchase Intention Agreements

On the morning of September 6, the launching ceremony for the Hunan Poverty Alleviation through ConsumptionMonth and the Poverty Alleviation through ConsumptionDemonstration Center washeld at Gaoqiao Grand Market in Changsha City. During this event, 51 impoverished counties and some non-impoverished ones were invited to set up product exhibition halls in the market. As the designated supporter for Xinshao County’spoverty alleviation, HUTB was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the Product Exhibition Hall of Xinshao County and signed purchase intention agreements with local enterprises. Relevant activities were attended by HUTB representatives including Gan Dejian, a member of HUTB’s CPCCommittee and Director of the United Front Department, and leaders of the Labor Union, the Logistics Division and other departments.
Among the 60-pluskinds of distinctive agricultural and sideline products displayed in the Xinshao Exhibition Hall, there was “Qiansuixiang” black rice produced from Zhuobi Village Organic Black Rice Planting Base, the “Longqiyuan” rice wine produced by Xinshao Shangyuan Biotechnology Co., Ltd. receiving the pair assistance from the School of Business Administration, and the high-quality rice produced Shaoyang Houtu Ecological Agricultural Co., Ltd., the rice supplier of HUTB’scanteen. On the opening day, Xinshao Product Exhibition Hall signed purchase intention agreements on the agricultural and sideline products worth a total of RMB8.5 million with over 10 companies, including HUTB.
In 2018, in active response to the call of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and the People’s Government of Hunan Province, HUTB was listedamong the first batch of pilot universities to purchase products from impoverished areas rather than donate money to them under the university-agriculture cooperation model. HUTB positively participated in the poverty alleviation through consumptioncampaign and signed a procurement agreement on products worth RMB6.03 million with enterprises in Xinshao. Thus, HUTB organized relevant departments to convene special meetings to decompose the procurement tasks. As at the end of 2019, HUTB’s Labor Union, Logistics Division, and secondary institutions purchased RMB6.08 million of agricultural and sideline products from Xinshao County and over-fulfilledthe tasks, thus receiving high-profile recognitionand public praise from the Poverty Alleviation Office of Hunan Province.
Poverty alleviation involves the construction of a long-term mechanism, an important link of which is to promoting poverty alleviationthrough consumption. Since it dispatched poverty alleviation teamsto villages, HUTB has been solidly advancing poverty alleviation through consumption and mobilizing the faculty to actively participating. Through poverty alleviationby consumption, HUTB strives to drive the industrial development of the poverty-stricken areas, to help these regions cultivate economic drivers, and to contribute power to building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
