A Commendation Conference for COVID-19 FightRole Modelwas held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on the morning of September 8. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, President of the State and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, presented medals to Zhong Nanshan, the recipient of the “Medal of the Republic”, and Zhang Boli, Zhang Dingyu, and Chen Wei, the recipients of the national honorary title of “People’s Hero”. Xi Jinping also delivered an important speech. China has made major strategic achievements in the battle against COVID-19, demonstrating the notable advantages of the CPC leadership and the country's socialist system, the great strength of the Chinese people and the Chinese nation, the profound heritage of Chinese civilization, and the nation's sense of responsibility as a major and responsible country, Xi said. China’s achievements in COVID-19 fight have greatly enhanced the confidence, pride, and cohesion of the entire Party and the whole nation of all ethnic groups and will certainly inspire us to brave new challenges and blaze new trails in the new era, Xi added.
Xi Jinping emphasized that the great anti-epidemic spirit follows the Chinese nation’s long-standing characteristics and cultural genes, derives from patriotism, collectivism, and socialism, vividly demonstrates the Chinese spirit, and enriches the connotations of the spirit of the nation and the times. Xi urged that we must vigorously carry forward the great anti-epidemic spirit in the whole society and turn it into strong power that enables us to comprehensively build a modern socialist country and to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
In his speech, General Secretary Xi Jinping systematically reviewed the entire process of the fight against COVID-19 and summarized the great anti-epidemic spirit into five inspiring and powerful phrases, “putting people's lives first, nationwide solidarity, sacrifice, respecting science, and a sense of mission for humanity.” HUTB’s teachers and students paid closeattention to the conference. They expressed that they will continue to learn from heroes and carry forward their spirit of selfless and fearless dedication. HUTB’s teachers and students indicated that they will learn these heroes’ spirit of fighting more bravely in greater difficulty and danger at the critical moment of the epidemic prevention and control. Moreover, HUTB’s teachers and students said that they will carry forward the great anti-epidemic spirit with their own practical actions, implement such spirit into work and study, and bravely withstand the tests of various difficulties and risks; that they will continuously strengthen their consciousness of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment; that they will maintain firm confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics; that they will firmly uphold the authority as well as the centralized and unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping at its core; that they will stay true to the missions of cultivating talents for the Party and the country, contribute more to the university's overall implementation of the “Three-Upgrade Strategy”, and untiringly struggle to realize the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
