HUTB Holds Promotion Meeting for Major Consulting and Research Program under Chinese Academy of Engineering

On the morning of September 4, Hunan University of Technology and Business (HUTB) held a promotion meeting for “Strategic Research on Modernized Urban Governance System and Governance Capability for New Smart Cities”, a major consulting research program under the Chinese Academy of Engineering(CAE)and led byProfessor Chen Xiaohong, President of HUTB and an academician of CAE. The meeting was attended online or offline by Peng Jinqing, Zeng Fuqiu, Li Dingjun, Vice Presidents of HUTB, as well as 20 academicians, experts and scholars including Hu Wenrui, an academician of CAE and Director of the Engineering Management Department of CAE, and over 40 members of the program team. Vice President Peng Jinqing presided over the meeting.
On behalf of the program team, Academician Chen Xiaohong introduced the mid-term progress of the “Strategic Research on Modernized Urban Governance System and Governance Capability for New Smart Cities” and its six main subjects. Focusing on medical care, transportation, emergency, ecosystems, government affairs and other key areas in municipal governance, Academician Chen displayed the progress and major achievements made in the preliminary research from the ten aspects, namely, special survey, data collection, problem disclosure, experience summary, capability evaluation, strategy construction, application demonstration, paper publication, policy recommendations, and research reports. Meanwhile, Ms.Chen put forward the follow-up research tasks and plans for the program. Shesincerely thanked the academicians and experts present at the meeting, andexpressed, “I believe that under the guidance of academicians and experts, our program team will achieve more results in urban governance and the construction of smart cities and the smart society; our team will keep working and studying hard to smoothly conclude the program and to make greater contributions to the national development.
Subsequently, on behalf of Chen’steam, Wang Yangjie, Associate Professor from the Central South University, made a special report on the conclusion of the program “Big-data-driven Strategic Research on National Ecological Environmental Security in the New Era” from the four aspects, namely, research tasks and teams, academic researches and application results, project implementation, and use of funds.

The academicians and experts present deeply discussed the research progress and follow-ups of the program and raised many valuable opinions and suggestions. It was unanimously agreed at the meeting that the research has proceeded well. All academicians and experts present held that the program team has properly taken the opinions and suggestions put forward in the preliminary stage, actively overcome the impact from the COVID-19 epidemic, further organized and improved the research contents, and achieved fruitful temporary results which go beyond the set plan and fully reflect the scientificity and advancement of this program. In the meantime, the academicians and experts suggested that in the follow-up researches, the program team should further highlight the research focus, optimize the realization path, and strengthen the technical means. Basing on the current changes in the international and domestic environments, the program team should adhere to the “people-oriented” research concept to solve the wellbeing issues that most concern the people and to strive to bring more practical social benefits.
After the meeting, the academicians and experts present at the meeting visited HUTB’s Intelligent Manufacturing Laboratory, Smart City Laboratory, Engineering Research Center for Ecological Environment Big Data and Intelligent Decision-making Technology of Hunan Province, Key Laboratory for New Retail Virtual Reality Technology of Hunan Province, Artificial Intelligence and Robot Innovation Laboratory, Internet of Things Technology Laboratory, etc.. The academicians and experts highly praised HUTB’s outstanding achievements in the construction of scientific research platforms, laboratories, disciplines, and campus.
It is learned thatthe “Strategic Research on Modernized Urban Governance System and Governance Capability for New Smart Cities” is a major consulting research program the CAEestablishes to accelerate the thorough implementation of the guiding principle of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. It is jointly undertaken by HUTB, Alibaba Group, Central South University, Tsinghua University, Xiangtan University, Shenzhen University and other institutions.
