[Epidemic Prevention and Control] Chen Xiaohong, HUTB President &Academician, Donates First Batch of Medical Protective Materials to Xiangya Hospital

Recently, Chen Xiaohong, President of Hunan University of Technology and Business (HUTB) and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, has been urgently utilizing various channels to procure over 1,000 pieces of professional medical protective materials from abroad. These goods are being donated to Xiangya Hospital of Central South University in batches for the epidemic prevention and control. The first batch of donations including 575 pieces of DuPont medical protective clothing and 100 boxes of disinfectant wipes with British patents has already been delivered to Xiangya Hospital. It is expected that the second batch containing 500 pieces of DuPont medical protective clothing will be fully procured soon.
At the receipt ofthese very scarce medical protective materials, Zhang Xin, Secretary of Xiangya Hospital and Lei Guanghua, President of Xiangya Hospital, expressed their sincere thanks to President Chen Xiaohong on behalf of all the medical staff of Xiangya Hospital. The two leaders stated, “Medical protective clothing is the most needed material now. In the most strenuous period of the epidemic prevention and control, President Chen has made every endeavor to procure this batch of medical goods from abroad and donate it to us. That shows her care and concern for medical staff, her strong support for the epidemic prevention and control, and her great patriotism and altruism!”
President Chen Xiaohong is always concerned with the anti-epidemic progress. When learning that the medical materials such as protective clothing are in short supply, she specifically entrusted the overseas organizations like the Hunan Chamber of Commerce in the U.K, the Hunanese Association in the U.K, and the Alumni Association of Xiang Chinese in the U.K to urgently procure anti-epidemic materials. Talking about the original intention of donation, President Chen Xiaohong said, “Heroes emerge in each era. At this very moment, the medical workers fighting on the frontline to heal the wounded and rescue the dying despite the difficulties are the great heroes! Their benevolence and boundless love are deeply touching all of us! Although I'm not fighting on the front line, I still hope to do my part for the epidemic prevention and control.”
According to reports, besides actively donating medical materials, President Chen Xiaohong also spared no effort to contribute wisdom and strength to the anti-epidemic work. She organized her team to offer suggestions to the leaders of Party Central Committee, the State Council, Hunan Provincial Party Committee, Hunan Provincial Government, and relevant departments. The multiple high-quality reports on policy suggestions submitted by herand her team have won full affirmation.
In this cross-national procurement of medical materials, many enthusiastic persons such as Xiong Peng, President of the Hunan Chamber of Commerce in the U.K (a HUTBalumnusmajoring ininformationmanagementinthe classof 1999), Dr. He Lixin and Mr. Zhou Ye, alumni of Central South University, worked together to overcome many difficulties through transferring several flights. Hunan Red Cross Society and Beijing Capital International Airport offered green passages to support the rapid material transshipment. Thus, this batch of goods has been smoothly and timely transported to Changsha. President Chen Xiaohong extended special thanks to them and stated that the follow-up procurement and donation was going on in an orderly manner.
Xiangya Hospital of Central South University has undertaken important missions and tasks in Hunan’s epidemic prevention and control. It has successively sent four batches of members of national medical teams to support Hubei’s epidemic prevention and control. This batch of medical protective materials donated by President Chen Xiaohong will be timely delivered to the medical staff to help them better carry out epidemic prevention and treatment.
