The Graduate Student Team of Our University Was Awarded The Third Place of Debate Competition for University Graduate Students in Hunan Province

On October 29, the Fifth Debate Competition Final for University Graduate Students in Hunan Province and the Closing Ceremony sponsored by Provincial Degree Office and undertaken by Graduate School of National University of Defense Technology was held at Academic Lecture Hall of National University of Defense Technology. Tang Yawu, the Deputy Director of Hunan Provincial Education Department, Yan Shengli, the Director of Academic Degree Committee Office of People's Government of Hunan Province, etc. attended the closing ceremony.
The graduate student team from 19 Hunan colleges and universities such as National University of Defense Technology, Central South University, Hunan University, etc. participated in the Debate Competition. After the fierce competition for one month, the graduate student team of our school stood out in the competition and won the Third Place of this Debate Competition for Graduate Students and was awarded the Outstanding Organization Award. Zeng Songzhi, the member of Debate Team, was rated as the Excellent Debater, and the adviser Xiao Pengzhan was awarded the title of Excellent Adviser.
This Debate Competition was inaugurated on Sep. 27. The single-field elimination system was implemented in the competition and the competition was divided into five stages: position-taking competition, preliminary competition, intermediary competition, semi-finals and finals. The Debate Team of our university met the strong Xiangtan University team- the champion of the first Debate Competition at the preliminary competition stage. Both teams carried out fierce debate about "with the progress of time, the phone function shall develop toward the differentiation direction with the computer function or toward the assimilation direction". Finally, our team won the competition in 2:1.
At the intermediary competition stage, our team fought against Hunan Normal University team- champion in two previous Debate Competitions Our debaters firmly verified the opinion of "the occurrence of the artificial intelligence debater is a good thing for the human debaters" through the solid data evidence and rigorous logical reasoning, and finally entered the semi-finals with the excellent results in 3:0.
Graduate School paid high attention to that Competition, carefully selected Zeng Songzhi, Li Yue, Zhang Yuan, Shen Zhangliang, Yao Ling and Li Kanghui to participate in the competition on behalf of the University Graduate School, arranged the full-time teachers to conduct the organization and coordination in the whole process, and recruited and selected the excellent instructors for patient and metiluous guidance. The cultivation units of all competitors also provided strong support and help for the training and competition of the competitors. Our team obtained good results for the first time in the Provincial Graduate Student Debate Competition, which not only affirms and spurs on the education and cultivation of graduate students in our university, but also adds the glory for the 70thanniversary.
