Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence was Founded and President Chen Xiaohong Elected as Chairman

On Sep. 29, the founding assembly of Hunan Provincial Association for Artificial Intelligence and the first member representative assembly were held in our University.
Lai Mingyong, Vice Chairman of Hunan CPPCC and Director of Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Cai Zixing, former Vice Chairman of Hunan CPPCC, Lu Guangxiu, former Vice Chairman of Hunan CPPCC and Director of National Engineering Application Center for Human Stem Cells, Chen Xiaohong, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of HNUC, Liao Xiangke, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chairman of Hunan Computer Federation and Liu Xiaoming, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of Hunan Association for Science and Technology, etc. attended. More than 300 experts and scholars from both inside and outside the province participated in the assambly.
The founding assembly was conducted surrounding the subject that "the new generation of artificial intelligence technology promotes the technology prosperity and economic development of Hunan Province". At the assembly, President Academician Chen Xiaohong addressed the welcome speech and briefly introduced the development of artificial intelligence and the construction of artificial intelligence in our University. Meanwhile, she said that we would seize the opportunity, study and work hard to promote the further development of the artificial intelligence under the leadership of Hunan Association of Science & Technology and the guidance of Hunan Province Society of Artificial Intelligence.
Lai Mingyong, Liu Xiaoming, Cai Zixing, Liu Hong and Lu Guangxiu delivered speeches at the assembly, congratulating the establishment of the Association. They hoped that the Association would strengthen the organizational and ideological construction, carry out basic and strategic research of AI, gather AI talents in Hunan, build an AIT communication platform in Hunan Province, and plays an important role in fostering new momentum of economic development and promoting the intellectualized upgrading of Hunan's social economy.
At the assembly, Professor Liu Hong of Peking University, Researcher Zeng Dajun of Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, President Shen Gang of Bright Dream Robotics Co., Ltd. under Country Garden also made academic reports on the topics of "Development of Public Service Robots", "Intelligent Application" and "Intelligent Manufacturing".
The assembly voted to adopt the constitution of the Association, membership fee standard and management measure, election method of representative assembly and council, etc. Academician Chen Xiaohong was elected Chairman, and five others including Luo Zhigang were elected Vice Chairman.
At the closing ceremony, as the newly elected Chairman of the society, President Academician Chen Xiaohong express heartfelt thanks, on behalf of the members of the new council, for the concern and support of Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, Hunan Association of Science & Technology and Department of Civil Affair of Hunan Province, as well as the trust and support of the representatives. In the speech, she said that she would do her best to build the Society of Artificial Intelligence into a provincial-level comprehensive demonstration science and technology society that is legal, standardized, democratic and independent surrounding the goal of building a first-class science and technology society. The work would be conducted mainly surrounding the aspects of playing the function as a bridge, promoting the industrial exchange and cooperation, expanding the service channel and strengthening the construction of the society. In addition, she would make efforts to promote the deep integration of artificial intelligence and real economy, promote the upgrade of enterprises towards the artificial intelligence, create the real value of the artificial intelligence, form new economic increment, create a "gold business card" of the artificial intelligence of Hunan Province and contribute her own power to develop Hunan through science and education.
AI is a new technical science for R&D of intelligent theories, methods, technologies and application systems for simulating, extending and expanding human intelligence. At present, AI has become a new focus and a new engine of international competition, creating new opportunities for economic and social development.
Hunan has closely related with AI. In 1981, Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) was established in Changsha, which is a milestone in the AI development in China; In 1982, CAAI Transaction was first published in Changsha, upholding the principle of AI academic research; In 1987, Professor Cai Zixing of Central South University published the first book of AI in China - Artificial Intelligence: Principles & Application. As a major province of education, Hunan has gathered experts and professors who have been engaged in AI research for a long time, which accumulated leading figures and various talents in various fields for Hunan's construction. Many colleges and universities in Hunan have set up related AI majors, aiming at the world's frontiers of science and technology, seizing the commanding heights of AI, speeding up the AI talent cultivation and transportation plan, and dealing with the shortage of professional talents.
