Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition of Four Calligraphers and Painters Opened in Our University

On Sep. 18, on the occasion of the 87th anniversary of the Mukden Incident, under the joint sponsorship of HNUC, Hunan Province Calligraphers Association, Hong Kong Ancient Aart Collection Society and Changsha Yunlu Book House, and the co-organization of Changsha Buduo Hall Art Gallery, Yunlu Painting and Calligraphy -- Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition of He Jishan, Luo Hongsheng, Peng Yunliang and Liao Yiyong was opened in Buduo Hall.
Yang Weigang, Deputy Director of Hunan Province People's Congress, Gao Wenbing, former Secretary of Party Committee of Central South University, He Jishan, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and former President of Central South University of Technology, Chen Xiaohong, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of our University, Zhang Shiping, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group and Director of Hunan Province Finance Office, Zheng Jiaming, former Deputy Minister of the provincial Party Committee Propaganda Department, former Chairman of Hunan Association of Social Sciences and Dean of School of Literature and Journalism of our University, Liu Siwei, a Senior Professor of our University, Cheng Xin, General Manager of Hunan Xingxiang Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd., Tang Yuwen, Deputy Director of Development Research Center, the People's Government of Hunan Province, Cai Shenyuan, Chief Economist of Xiangtou Holdings Group Co., Ltd. and Chairman of Hunan State-owned Reform and Development Fund Management Co., Ltd., Liu Guoquan, Vice President of our University, Chen Ximing, member of China Calligraphers Association and Vice Chairman of Hunan Province Calligraphers Association, and other leaders and guests attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Vice President Li Dingjun. Teachers and students of our University and Central South University and calligraphy and painting fans from all sectors of the society visited the exhibition.
Academician He Jishan, born in Sep. 1934 in Liuyang County, Hunan Province, is a famous geophysicist and project managerialist, former President of Central South University, and professor and doctoral supervisor of Central South University. In 1994, he was elected as an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. He advocates the mutual integration of science, technology, engineering and arts, the compatibility and complementation of the logical thinking and artistic thinking, and actively advocates the calligraphy and humanistic education among engineering college students. His calligraphy works have been exhibited in Chinese Academy of Engineering, Zhejiang University, Tongji University, Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and other places, and his personal calligraphy exhibition was held in Central South University and Peking University.
On behalf of the University, President Academician Chen Xiaohong congratulated on the successful holding of the painting and calligraphy exhibition, and extended a warm welcome and sincere thanks to all guests. She said that Academician He Jishan is a master of scientific research and calligraphy creation, made great achievements in science and art, and created the unique Chinese and English calligraphy. She hoped that all teachers and students could make full use of the exhibition as a precious learning opportunity, inherit the traditional Chinese culture, and improve the realm and literary accomplishment in the integration of science, humanity and art, making the art of HNUC more colorful.
Liu Siwei, a Senior Professor of our University, Zheng Jiaming, Dean of School of Literature and Journalism, Chen Ximing, member of China Calligraphers Association and Vice Chairman of Hunan Province Calligraphers Association, Yang Weigang, Deputy Director of Hunan Province People's Congress delivered a speech successively, and congratulated the holding of the painting and calligraphy exhibition. Gao Wenbing, former Secretary of Party Committee of Central South University, announced the opening of the exhibition.
In the speech, Yang Weigang, Deputy Director of Hunan Province People's Congress, pointed out the literary lasts forever and brush and ink - writing, painting, or calligraphy can spread the spirit. The art of painting and calligraphy is always a treasure of China's artistic and cultural corridor, and an important carrier of Chinese civilization. More importantly, it is also an important way for people to communicate, think and convey the feelings, and significant contents of spiritual civilization. The painting and calligraphy exhibition is an important method to promote the construction of the spiritual civilization, enliven the campus culture and cultivate the taste of teachers and students, which would certainly bring a fresh fragrance of brush and ink - writing, painting or calligraphy, and sow seeds of art, making the painting and calligraphy garden full of prosperity.
Academician He Jishan introduced the origin of the creation of some works. He expressed that the calligraphy is not only an art, but a science. The opening day of the exhibition is the 87th anniversary of the Mukden Incident, which is not only marks the beginning of the full-scale aggression against China of the Japanese imperialism's by force, but also the beginning of 14 years of bloody battle of Chinese people. We should remember the national humiliation, inherit and carry forward the excellent Chinese traditions.
In addition, Academician He Jishan also presented his calligraphy work -- Platform, a poem of Mr. Tang Zhixiang, to HNUC.
