School Party Secretary Wang Hanqing Made Theme Report in Academic Annual Meeting of Social Science Circles

On December 15th, “The Sixth Session Hunan Provincial Academic Annual Meeting of Social Science Circles”－ “Thought and Action in Reform and Opening-up” was held in Changsha. Professor Wang Hanqing, general party secretary of Hunan University of Commerce, was invited to make his theme report. Li Xiangzhou, counsel of Hunan Publicity Department, Zhou Fayuan, Party Secretary of Hunan Provincial Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences Circles, Zheng Sheng, vice-chairman of Hunan Provincial Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences Circles as well as other 150 persons attended the meeting.

On reform and innovation of higher education, Professor Wang Hanqing made a theme report－“Deepen the Internal Mechanism, Promote Governance Capability and Facilitate Modernization of Governing System in Universities.” Professor Wang pointed out that reform and innovation were the major trend of the new era. Universities that need to fulfill the objective of building the world-class universities and disciplines have to grasp the key of educational system reform, making an overall arrangement and adopting targeted steps to implement plans systematically. He explained his report from three aspects. First, we should identify the development orientation correctly and make a proper top design so as to create conditions for institutional reform. Second, we should adopt targeted steps and facilitate reform with systematic mindset in order to rationalize mechanism and make innovation in university administration. Third, we should command the reform with party-building mindset with the aim of strengthening party leadership and steering development direction.

Professor Wang, with his own working experience, exchange experiences with foreign institutes and reform of the school, made an informative and understandable elaboration on institutional reform of higher institutions. He also introduced Hunan University of Commerce’s experience in reform led by the “Three Upgrades and Three Prosperities” objective, and the reform-related undertakings, gaining applauses from the attendees.

This annual meeting was focused on reform, discussing the crucial areas and key links in Hunan’s reform and development. Seven scholars and experts from the Party School of Hunan Provincial Committee, Hunan Academy of Social Science, Central South University and other institutions gave their meeting speeches. Besides, the meeting involved an awarding ceremony for the outstanding papers of the year. Professor Wang, with his paper, won the outstanding prize.
