Our School’s Major Breakthrough in Ministry of Education’s Outstanding Research Award of Human and Social Sciences in Higher Institution

According to the document “Decisions on the Seventh Outstanding Research Award of Human and Social Sciences in Higher Institution” published by Ministry of Education on December 11th, 2015. Professor Chen Xiaohong won the first prize in management category with her work “Assessment Theories and Practices of Building the Two-oriented Society.” This award is the first prize of this kind won by teacher from our school and even Hunan province, making a major breakthrough in this respect. Professor Wang Minggao won the third prize in interdisciplinary category with his work “Researches on Model and Mechanism on Prevention and Punishment Corrupted Chinese Officials’ Overseas Flight.” So far, our school has become the only university in Hunan Province that has gained the first, second and third prizes of this kind.
“Assessment Theories and Practices of Building the Two-oriented Society” represents the study achievements of the key project－“Studies on Standards and Index System of Building the Two-oriented Society”－in Ministry of Education’s philosophical social science. This book gives a scientific definition of the connotation of Two-oriented Society, and puts forth reasonable and practical suggestions for building the Two-oriented Society, which is of great instructive significance and theoretical value for building the Two-oriented Society and the ecological civilization. Related research results of the book have been published on the top journals, like Nature, at home and abroad. Ministry of Education’s briefing report had a feature report on the approaches, achievements and results of the study on the Two-oriented Society led by Prof. Chen Xiaohong. Related policies and suggestions have been included in the experts’ outstanding proposals by Ministry of Education in 2013. In addition, the study achievements have also attracted attention and gained wide coverage from the media, such as People Daily, CCTV and Xihua News Agency. Meanwhile, results of the book provide theoretical and practical instruction for management decision-makings of the government, industrial parks and enterprises, which is of huge practical importance for guiding industry development, technical innovation and project construction. Hence, the book has been gaining good social and economical returns.
The Outstanding Research Award of Human and Social Sciences in Higher Institution is an important award issued by Ministry of Education to scholars from higher institutions across China for their outstanding achievements in philosophical and social sciences, with the aim of encouraging and guiding scientific research personnel to explore actively with rigorous scholarship, to innovate boldly for superior projects and to further press ahead with the development of the philosophical and social sciences in higher institutions. This award, which is elected every three years, is the top scientific research award in China’s human and social sciences, covering prizes in books, papers, and research report as well as science popularity. These two prizes is a symbol of the major breakthrough of HNUC in scientific researches, forming an important pillar for our realization of “Three upgrades and three prospering.” (Department of Scientific Research)
