Delegation Headed by Professor Wang Hanqing Visits BRE
2016-01-19
From November 28th to December 1st, Professor Wang Hanqing, director of Hunan Collaborative Innovative Center of Key Technologies for Building Energy & Environment Control, along with other 5 center members, paid a friendly visit to and made academic exchanges with BRE at the invitation from BRE, a British green building R&D Institute, and with the financial support from the National Ministry of Science and Technology’s “the 12th five-year plan” technological support project. BRE, founded in 1921, is one of the top five international institutes combining research, development, demonstration and building of green building. Its BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method), the earliest assessment method for green building in the world, was developed before America’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Together with Eco-home, BREEAM constitutes the most authoritative and widely used assessment methods for green building. It was them that made it possible that England, Germany and other countries adopted the super energy-costly assessment for green building. Li Keqiang and other state leaders have visited and inspected BRE.
Wang Hanqing and other 5 five colleagues, accompanied by center technical personnel Dr. Keith Snook, Dr. Chunli Cao and engineer Silky Yu, visited the widely-known green building technology innovation park, which is located at the base of BRE in Waterford, London. The innovation park represents the model of BRE’s modern green building technologies, with over ten buildings of different types in it. Those buildings include office building, industrialized housing, permanent housing and other types of buildings, which are well designed and apply multiple building energy-saving technology, indoor thermal and humidity environment control technology and sophisticated materials. They all embody the most advanced concepts, designs, construction and material technology in the field of green building.

During the exchanges with BRE Group, Wang Hanqing, on behalf of the academic delegation, made a detailed introduction of his project “Integration and Demonstration of Key Technologies for Building Energy & Environment Control” under the National Ministry of Science and Technology’s “the 12th five-year plan” technological support project, as well as of achievements made by Hunan Collaborative Innovative Center of Key Technologies for Building Energy & Environment Control in green building energy-saving technologies and materials, industrial hazardous pollutant emission control technology and building humidity control technology and new material. Wang also briefly introduced the basic conditions of Hunan University of Commerce, Hunan Polytechnic University and the Collaborative Innovative Center.
Mr. Guy Hammersley, the person from BRE Group, warmly welcomed the delegation headed by prof. Wang Hanqing. On behalf of BRE Group’s vice-president, BREAM director Mr. Martin Townsend, Mr. Keith Snook, director of BRE green building information system development department, made a friend and detailed introduction of the work BRE has been making in green building technologies R&D. Dr. Chunli Cao, technical personnel from BRE trust institute, introduced to delegation about BRE’s conditions in overseas cooperation.

After academic exchanges, BRE Group and Wang’s delegation further discussed and exchanged opinions about their own technical strength, issues of common interest and the potential cooperation fields. The two sides achieved initial intent of cooperation in talent education, technology promotion, project cooperation and demonstration of green building.
