Prof. Chen Xiaohong Makes Speech on Provincial Symposium of Establishing New Think Tank

The Hunan Provincial Symposium of Building New Think Tank was held on Oct 16. This symposium aims to implement the directing documents issued by the office of Central Party, the State Council, provincial Party Committee and provincial government, promote the construction of the provincial think tank and implement the responsibilities of related units. The symposium is hosted by Li Famei, the vice director of Provincial Propaganda Department. Zhang Wenxiong, member of the Standing Committee of CPC Provincial Committee as well as the director of Provincial Propaganda Department, addressed the meeting. Altogether 120 people attended the meeting, including provincial think tank leaders, chief experts, officials at various levels in charge of propaganda, media principals, and the think tank members from “Contributing to Reforms in Difficulties” (CRD). Among the five think tank speakers, as the team leader of “The Special Consult Group for the Ecological Reform” under CRD Think Tank, Professor Chen Xiaohong of our school made a speech on behalf of think tank experts from higher education. Prof. Wang Minggao of our school was also invited to the symposium.

In Chen’s speech, she pointed out that the high-end think tank has become a significant symbol of the soft power and discourse power of a country or region. In order to establish a good think tank from universities and colleges, we should first of all take a firm grasp of “Chinese Character” and “New Pattern”; secondly, we should take the institutional innovation of establishing think tank of higher education institutions as a key point; thirdly, we should set up and perfect the mechanism as an important safeguard.

Think tank is a repository of intellectual resources and high-level decisions, which boosts the development of a country and region. Being a provincial university, a lot of superior talents and social elites gather in our school. After the institutional innovation in the recent years, many professors, scholars and research teams have actively contributed their intelligence and exert efforts to the economical and social development of the country and Hunan “Four Modernizations and Two Oriented Society”.
