Premier Li Keqiang Urges Officials to Study HNUC Professor’s Report on Dongting Lake Protection

According to sources from Hunan Democracy League, the Premier of the State Council Li Keqiang has made remarks on HNUC professor Liu Siwei’s survey report on protecting the ecology of Dongting Lake.
“National Development and Reform Commission, Environment Protection Ministry and Water Resources Ministry please carefully study the report and carry out necessary methods to protect and develop the ecology system of Dongting Lake,” Premier Li commented at the end of the report.
In 2013, Vice president of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Chen Xiaoguang led a team of experts to carry out a field study in Hunan Province’s Dongting region. HNUC professor Liu Siwei was among the research team and compiled a research report regarding the protection of ecology system of Dongting Lake afterwards.
Dongting Lake is a large, shallow lake in northeastern Hunan province. It is the second largest freshwater lake in China. Dongting Lake is famous in Chinese culture as the place of origin of Dragon boat racing. It is the site of Junshan island, and is the home to the endangered Finless Porpoise.
