Good News: Engineering Science of the University Selected as Top 1% Discipline of ESI in the World
2023-03-13
On March 9, Clarivate released the latest ESI data for March 2023, covering the period from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2022. There are 8,557 scientific research institutions in the world on the list, including 409 universities in mainland China. The engineering science discipline of the university is on the list and ranks top 1% of ESI disciplines in the world, indicating that the university has entered the international high-level ranks in the field of engineering science. This is another breakthrough made by the university in the "double first-class" discipline and promoting the construction of organized scientific research, and our international academic productivity and influence have jumped again.

In recent years, under the strong leadership of the CPC HUTB Committee and under the cutting-edge leading, advanced planning and careful layout by Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory and CAE Academician, the university adheres to "Four Organizations", actively promotes organized scientific research, serves the "powerful country in science and technology" as its mission, focuses on the major strategic needs of the country and our province, continuously promotes systematic, holistic and synergistic research, and facilitates the integration of large platforms, large teams, large projects, great achievements and great contributions
ESI (Essential Science Indicators) is a quantitative analysis database based on more than 11,000 academic journal records collected by WebofScience (SCIE/SSCI). According to the characteristics of discipline development, ESI has set up 7 categories and 22 disciplines. With the rolling data of recent ten years as the cycle, ESI makes statistics, comparison and ranking of Article or Review papers and their citations in SCIE/SSCI database of all universities and scientific research institutions in the world, and updates the data every two months (including the publication and citation data of papers). When the total cited frequency of papers in a certain discipline of an institution in recent ten years accounts for more than 1% of the total cited frequency of papers in this discipline in the world, the discipline ranks top 1% of ESI in the world. Top 1% of ESI disciplines are generally regarded as international high-level disciplines, which are usually called "ESI disciplines" or "institutional preponderant disciplines". ESI has become one of the important evaluation index tools used to evaluate the international academic level and influence of universities, academic institutions and countries/regions in the world.
