On the morning of July 12, Peng Guofu, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress, and his delegation conducted a research visit to the Xiangjiang Laboratory. They were accompanied by Chen Xiaohong, CAE Academician, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee.

The research visit was attended by Gan Yuehua, Director of the Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress, Zhou Jianyuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Hunan Province, and Peng Jingdong, Second-level Inspector of the Department of Science and Technology of Hunan Province, Zhang Ling, Vice President of HUTB, and Yi Mianyang, Vice President of HUTB and Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, Hu Chunhua, Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and leaders from relevant units.

Deputy Director Peng Guofu first received a briefing on the Xiangjiang Laboratory. Academician Chen Xiaohong provided an overview of the Xiangjiang Laboratory's progress and future development plans since its establishment one year ago. She mentioned that the Xiangjiang Laboratory is actively promoting the integration of "Four Aspects of Computing", namely computing basis, algorithms, computing power, and computing network, aiming to create an advanced computing and artificial intelligence national strategic scientific and technological force. The laboratory will continue to generate innovative results around cutting-edge theories and key technologies, conducting research, application, and transformation simultaneously. Its focus is on promoting high-quality economic and social development, contributing to the realization of the "Three Highlands, Four New Missions" blueprint, and providing greater support for self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology.

Following that, Deputy Director Peng Guofu conducted on-site inspections of laboratory platforms related to intelligent manufacturing, industrial intelligent control, environmental intelligent monitoring and sensing, intelligent robots, artificial intelligence, smart cities, smart societies, metaverse and smart retail, smart energy resources and environment, brain-inspired intelligence, computing chips, and advanced computing. He learned about the construction of research teams, the layout of technological innovation, technology implementation pathways, and the application of research outcomes.
During the discussion session, Deputy Director Peng Guofu highly praised the progress of the Xiangjiang Laboratory's construction. He expressed that the one-year progress of Xiangjiang Laboratory has exceeded expectations and is impressive. The first aspect is the development concept of "Four-Computing Integrations," achieving a "big integration" across boundaries and fields. The second aspect is the construction of scientific research teams, creating a "big cluster" of high-end talents across boundaries and fields. The third aspect involves diverse funding sources, focusing on both "transmission" and "creation." The talent mechanism is flexible yet robust, and it has established a favorable innovation ecosystem. The fourth aspect is the adherence to the research concept of "meeting major practical needs, solving major practical problems, and addressing 'bottleneck' technical challenges." This approach facilitates the transformation of research outcomes from higher education institutions and research institutes, exploring new pathways and showcasing new highlights.
Deputy Director Peng Guofu also provided guiding suggestions regarding expediting the physical operation of Xiangjiang Laboratory, refining the focus of scientific research, and integrating the construction of Xiangjiang Laboratory with the university’s construction of “Double First-class” Initiative.
