NEWS-HUTB Achieves Outstanding Results in 26th China University Student Tennis Championship

Recently, the 26th China University Student Tennis Championship (Finals) was successfully held. This edition of the tennis competition lasted for two months, including selections from eight regional tournaments, bringing together top players from 213 universities across the country. This was the university's first participation in the national tennis championship finals. The university tennis team, led by Coach Li Dongqi, Wang Yin, and Zeng Tongyi, sent a total of 10 athletes to participate in the finals.

Our tennis team competed in various events, including men's singles in Group A, men's team events in Group A, men's doubles in Group B, and women's team events in Group A. After seven days of intense competition, the university's tennis team achieved excellent results. They secured two third-place finishes in the men's singles in Group A (tied for third place), came in fifth in the men's team events in Group A, and also clinched fifth place in the men's doubles in Group B. Furthermore, our head coach, Li Dongqi, was recognized as an outstanding national tennis coach.

In the men's team events of Group A, the university's tennis team gave their all in the group stage. With outstanding performances, they managed to defeat Peking University's men's team, securing the top spot in the group and advancing to the round of 16. In the women's team events of Group A, our female team faced formidable opponents. However, they exhibited consistent play and strong offense, ultimately securing the second spot in the group and successfully advancing to the round of 16. In the knockout stage, the men's team displayed remarkable strength. Liu Meng and Zhu Yuxing secured victories against Peking University's men's team with dominant scores of 6-3 and 6-2, earning the university's men's team a commendable 5th place finish at the national level. The female team members fought tenaciously but, unfortunately, were narrowly defeated by the women's team from Wuyi University. They were unable to advance further and concluded their journey in the round of 16. In the individual competition, Liu Meng competed in the men's singles and advanced with ease, winning by scores of 6-0 and 6-2 against competitors from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Shanghai University of Sport, securing a spot in the round of 16. In the round of 16, Liu Meng faced tough opponents and displayed great courage. Even when confronted with the reigning champion, he remained composed and calm, ultimately advancing to the final 8 with a score of 9-7. In the semi-finals, Liu Meng narrowly lost to a player from Zhejiang University, earning himself an impressive third place finish in the men's (Group A) singles event. Zhu Yuxing secured a place in the round of 16 with a score of 6-2 and 7-5. In the quarter-finals, he displayed great composure and defeated a player from Tsinghua University with a score of 6-2, advancing to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, he narrowly lost in the semi-finals to a player from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, earning a commendable third place finish in the men's singles (Group A), marking the best historical result for universities in Hunan Province in the national tennis finals. In the men's doubles, the pair of Fu Baiwei and Zhang Shuhan made it to the round of 16 with a score of 6-2 in the first round. In the rougnd of 8, Fu Baiwei and Zhang Shuhan demonstrated great synergy and composure, securing a place in the top eight with a score of 6-1. Unfortunately, they were defeated by a team from Shanghai University of Finance & Economics in the quarter-finals, earning a commendable fifth place finish in the men's doubles (Group B).

The recent competition has come to a perfect close, but the sports story of unity, hard work, and perseverance from HUTB Tennis Team continues to be written. We look forward to the university's tennis team performing even better in the upcoming provincial competition, achieving more remarkable results, and further showcasing the fruitful achievements of the university's "Sports HUTB" development!
