HUTB Holds Grand Opening Ceremony for New Students in Class 2023

Sometimes, riding the winds and breaking through the waves, we will set sail and navigate the vast sea. On the morning of September 10, HUTB held a grand opening ceremony for the news students in class 2023 at the North Campus stadium. The ceremony was attended by Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Huang Xin, Deputy Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee and President of HUTB, Wang Minggao, Director of the HUTB Academic Committee, Chief Leader Liu Guoquan, Zhang Ling, Yang Liangqi, Gan Dejian, He Longde, Yi Mianyang, Li Dingjun, and Nie Guoqing, as well as Chen Ming, a member of CPC HUTB Committee. Officials from related functional departments, leaders of all secondary schools, and all new students in class 2023 also participated in the event. The ceremony was presided over by President Huang Xin.
The opening ceremony of the new academic year began with a solemn flag-raising ceremony. The flag-bearers marched with precise and powerful steps to the flagpole. All students and staff stood up, sang the national anthem, and saluted the rising flag.
Following this, Chief Leaders presented the school emblem to a representative of the new students. All the new students stood up, and with great solemnity, they placed the school emblem on their chests. This symbolized a strong connection between the spirit of the school motto, "Sincerity & Credibility; Pragmatism & Innovation", and their own personal growth and development.
Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a speech titled "Stay true and pursue the light, innovate and chase dreams, freely pursue the wind" at the ceremony, providing an engaging and vivid "first lesson" to all the new students in class 2023.
Secretary Chen Xiaohong pointed out that this year, over 7,200 undergraduate and graduate students have joined HUTB, marking the largest number of new students in the university's 74-year history and also the most balanced male-to-female ratio. At this moment, the gears of destiny are set in motion, and a two-way journey has already begun. She sincerely wished all the students to embark on an exciting journey of youth and create a captivating chapter of youth in HUTB, which is committed to pursuing excellence and empowering growth.
Secretary Chen Xiaohong spoke to all the new students of class 2023 class the themes of "upholding integrity and pursuing brilliance", "innovating and pursuing dreams", and "enjoying the pursuit of excellence". Firstly, students must uphold righteousness and pursue the light, ultimately achieving great moral integrity and brightness. Upholding integrity is essential to firming one's direction, elevating oneself, and radiating brilliance. Students are encouraged to uphold the light of righteousness, strengthen their patriotic feelings, and enhance their sense of being Chinese. They should hold fast to human justice and moral principles. Students must uphold the light of righteousness, cultivate virtue, maintain a pure heart, and follow their conscience. They must uphold the integrity of their values, fasten the first button of life firmly, strengthen the noble character, and cultivate a self-disciplined and pure spirit. Students must safeguard the light of culture, drawing nourishment from the profound and enduring Chinese culture, seeking strength from the vast and profound Chinese civilization. With a focus on national development and revitalization, they should promote the creative transformation and innovative development of excellent traditional Chinese culture, striving to create new forms of human civilization.
Second, students must innovate and pursue dreams, and pursue progress every day through innovation. Innovation is the key to understanding the times, shaping the future, and realizing dreams. To chase the dream of building a technologically strong nation, students are encouraged to enhance their innovation consciousness, improve their skills, utilize their intelligence, and commit to studying for the rise of China as well as its development into a world-leading technological power. This includes pioneering new paths and exploring new frontiers. To chase dreams through integrated innovation, students should grasp the trend of integrated innovation in this era. They are encouraged to enrich their cognitive system through interdisciplinary fusion, nurture groundbreaking technologies through the convergence of science and technology, and promote free and comprehensive development through the fusion of science and the humanities and arts.
Third, students should embrace freedom and demonstrate youthful vigor. Youth signifies boundless energy and endless possibilities. Youth is the most vibrant time in life, and young people should embrace it wholeheartedly. To embrace the delight of savoring classics, students are encouraged to make the most of their time at HUTB, in this land of learning, in the elegant surroundings of the twelve academies, and amidst the diverse music festivals on campus. They should savor the classics, study diligently, and expand their horizons, allowing their inner qualities to shine. To embrace the challenge of self-discovery, students should venture beyond their comfort zones and discover new aspects of themselves. To embrace the delight of physical activity and work, they should regularly visit the library and sports facilities, dedicating time every day to reading and physical labor. In doing so, they will experience the refreshing winds of moving forward, dancing freely, and the exuberance of youth.
Secretary Chen Xiaohong encouraged everyone by saying, "Leaving behind a legacy in this land, our generation embarks once again. Let us seek scientific truth, humanistic goodness, and artistic beauty. Let us uphold tradition, chase the light, innovate and chase our dreams, and enjoy the winds of freedom. Before the ceremony began, a vibrant song and dance performance showcased the excellent spirit of the HUTB students, filled with youthful energy, striving for progress and aspiring to reach new heights. The new students held red flags and banners with different slogans, enthusiastically waving them to the rhythm of the music.
Associate Professor Yi Guodong from the Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, as the representative of the faculty, delivered a warm welcome to the new students of class 2023. He encouraged the students with the "Three Goods" to inspire and support each other: 1. Read well – to understand right from wrong. 2. Be a good person – to do good deeds. 3. Pursue good dreams – to aspire to great heights. He sincerely wished that all the new students would become seeds of the "HUTB spirit," take root, grow, and achieve their life goals at HUTB, contributing their efforts to the development of the nation and society in the future.
Four students, Zheng Bowen from the Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies (graduate student), Dong Ruixu from the School of Accounting (undergraduate), Wang Zimeng from the School of Finance (undergraduate), and Xu Yeying from the School of Business Administration (undergraduate), spoke as representatives of the new students. They shared their aspirations and dreams for their four years in the university, showcasing the outstanding qualities of HUTB students.
Led by Song Xinlin, a student from the Electronic Information Engineering Academician Excellence Class of the School of Microelectronics and Physics, the entire new students raised their right fists and solemnly pledged: to love the country and abide by the law, to cherish and honor the university; to have a broad vision, to be courageous and responsible; to study hard and strive for excellence, to uphold integrity, and to act accordingly; to be grateful to their parents and aspire to success; not to waste their youth or the prime of life. Let diligent study become the driving force for the soaring youth, let skill improvement become the source of youthful energy, and let excellence, diligence, and civility become habits. They will realize their dreams in the passionate pursuit of youth!
At the end of the ceremony, the melodious tunes of "Song of Hunan University of Technology and Business" and "My Motherland and Me" filled the air. All the students and faculty stood up, waving the red flags in their hands and singing in unison. The scene resembled a flowing sea of red, full of boundless enthusiasm and vitality. The resounding voices in the songs carried the deep love for their motherland and their hopes and aspirations for the future. Here, they will study diligently, strive for progress, and work hard to grow into "strivers" and "achievers."
