2023 Hunan Artificial Intelligence Conference Held at HUTB

Empower with digital intelligence and lead the future. On October 29, the 2023 Hunan Artificial Intelligence Conference took place at HUTB. The conference was guided by the Hunan Association for Science and Technology and jointly organized by the Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence and Xiangjiang Laboratory. HUTB co-hosted the event.
More than 800 leaders, guests, expert scholars, and entrepreneurs from Hunan Association for Science and Technology, Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence, Xiangjiang Laboratory, Hunan Intelligent Manufacturing Association, Peking University, Tsinghua University, National University of Defense Technology, Central South University, Fudan University, University of Science and Technology of China, HUTB, Zixing AI, Central South Intelligent Equipment, Hunan Chaoneng Robot, AthenaEyes Technology Co., Ltd., Xingcheng Capital, Baidu Inc., Wasion Group Limited, and other organizations attended the conference. Among them, there were Chen Xiaohong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and President of the Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence; Wang Guishu, Secretary of the Leading CPC Group of and Executive Vice Chairman of the Hunan Association for Science and Technology; Liu Guoquan, Vice President of HUTB and Executive Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory; Yi Mianyang, Vice President of HUTB and Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory.
At the opening ceremony Academician Chen Xiaohong delivered a welcoming speech. She pointed out that, in the current situation, it is necessary to focus on the key area of artificial intelligence, comprehensively enhance the innovation capability of artificial intelligence technology, continuously promote the cultivation of the artificial intelligence industry ecosystem, and accelerate the construction of a multi-level talent team in the field of artificial intelligence. She stated that she would promote closer communication and interaction between the Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence, Xiangjiang Laboratory, and universities, fully leveraging the platform of the Hunan Artificial Intelligence Conference. With the strong guidance and support of the Hunan Association for Science and Technology, efforts will be made to build a "Hunan highland" for the innovative development of the new generation artificial intelligence.
Secretary Wang Guishu delivered a speech on behalf of the Hunan Association for Science and Technology. He stated that Hunan Province attaches great importance to the development of strategic emerging industries such as artificial intelligence. The convening of the first Hunan Artificial Intelligence Conference by the Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence, in conjunction with Xiangjiang Laboratory, will effectively promote the further development of artificial intelligence technology in Hunan Province. He expressed hope that the Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence would establish a closer cooperative relationship with Xiangjiang Laboratory, to build a stronger research team, produce more substantial research results, and make new and greater contributions to realizing the beautiful blueprint of "Three Highlands, Four New Missions".
During the report session of the conference, the first stage was chaired by Zou Beiji, Vice President of the Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence and former Dean of the School of Information Science and Engineering at Central South University.
Academician Chen Xiaohong delivered a keynote speech titled "Empowering Industrial Innovation and Development with Digital Intelligence Technology", covering the new situations and challenges of technological innovation in the digital economy era, the development and frontier trends of artificial intelligence technology, and the empowerment of industrial transformation and management practices through artificial intelligence. She pointed out that artificial intelligence technology has become the core driving force of digital economic development. We need to actively promote the innovation and application of artificial intelligence technology to a wider range, higher level, and deeper degree, promote digital industrialization and industrial digitization, seize the commanding heights of future development, demonstrate new achievements in building a new development pattern and constructing new competitive advantages, and show new responsibilities.
Professor Cai Zixing, former Vice Chairman of the Hunan Provincial Committee of CPPCC and Honorary Chairman of the Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence, gave a presentation titled "Artificial Intelligence: Discipline System and Hotspots in Hunan". He systematically introduced the theory of the discipline system of artificial intelligence and interpreted the hotspot issues of artificial intelligence in Hunan, such as "building a national advanced manufacturing base and a science and technology innovation highland" and "solidifying the innovative construction of Changsha as a national-level demonstration city for artificial intelligence".
Professor Xu Kai from the National University of Defense Technology gave a presentation titled "Embodied Intelligence of 3D Geometric Perception". He shared research and innovation achievements related to four aspects: acquisition, reconstruction, understanding, and interaction, including real-time 3D reconstruction under fast camera motion, autonomous and collaborative scene scanning and reconstruction by robots, active scene understanding and interaction by robots, and skillful grasping by robots based on learning from 3D geometric representation.
The second stage of the report session was chaired by Zheng Jinhua, Vice President of the Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence and former Vice President of Hengyang Normal University.
Professor Wang Jianxin from Central South University gave a keynote presentation titled "Artificial Intelligence + Biological Data Processing", focusing on three aspects: an introduction to biomedical big data, artificial intelligence technology for processing biomedical big data, and considerations for the application of biomedical big data.
Yang Yang, Chairman of Hunan Central South Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd., delivered a keynote presentation titled "Empowering Intelligent Manufacturing to Lead the Development of Digital Intelligence", centering on three aspects: the empowerment of intelligent manufacturing, key capabilities of digital intelligence, and case studies of digital intelligence services.
Xiao Xiangjiang, President of the Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence and Chairman of Hunan Chaoneng Robot Technology Co., Ltd., presented a keynote speech titled "Combining Medical and Engineering to Support Smart Healthcare", focusing on three aspects: health robot products throughout the entire lifecycle, typical applications of artificial intelligence in hospitals, and case studies and experience sharing of the combination of medical and engineering.
Subsequently, the conference held a plaque awarding ceremony for the establishment of the Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence’s Youth Work Committee and Medical Artificial Intelligence Special Committee. In the presence of the attending leaders and guests, Academician Chen Xiaohong, President of the Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence, presented plaques to Xu Kai, Director of the Youth Work Committee and professor at the National University of Defense Technology, and Zhang Guoping, Director of the Medical Artificial Intelligence Special Committee and professor at Xiangya Hospital of Central South University. Warm applause erupted on the scene.
During the sub-forum sessions, the Artificial Intelligence Frontiers Forum, Intelligent Manufacturing Summit, Smart Healthcare Summit, and Smart Education Academic Forum were held simultaneously. Twenty-three experts and scholars from associations, institutions of higher learning, and technology enterprises elaborated from multiple perspectives on the innovative changes and practical applications of artificial intelligence in relevant fields. They shared research achievements, innovative products, and application scenarios in the field of artificial intelligence, delivering an academic feast that condensed technological content, cutting-edge thinking, and innovative concepts.
During the event, a series of activities were held, including the launch ceremony of the Hunan Province Youth Artificial Intelligence Programming Challenge, the seminar of the Medical Artificial Intelligence Special Committee of the Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence, AI Education Reform Seminar, award ceremony for outstanding doctoral and master's theses, as well as academic group discussions.
