HUTB Holds A Series of Activities for Alumni Returning to Campus to Celebrate 74th Anniversary of Establishment

From November 3 to 5, more than 500 alumni returned to their alma mater to participate in the alumni homecoming events organized by HUTB and its schools to celebrate the 74th anniversary of its establishment.
Cooperate and walk hand in hand towards the future. On the afternoon of November 4, the Xiangjiang Laboratory Investment Fund Communication Meeting was held in the Zhiyuan Lecture Hall of Xiangjiang Building. Chen Xiaohong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Gan Dejian, Member of the CPC HUTB Committee and Vice President of HUTB, Yi Mianyang, Member of the CPC HUTB Committee, Vice President of HUTB and Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, Xia Jichun, Executive Vice President of HUTB Alumni Association and Hu Chunhua, Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, attended the meeting. Officials from relevant departments of Xiangjiang Laboratory, Changsha State-owned Capital Investment and Operation Group Co., Ltd., and nearly 30 outstanding HUTB alumni entrepreneurs from across the country also attended the meeting.
Academician Chen Xiaohong delivered a speech at the meeting. On behalf of HUTB and Xiangjiang Laboratory, she warmly welcomed the alumni back to campus and expressed sincere gratitude. She stated that Xiangjiang Laboratory focuses on advanced computing and artificial intelligence, and is the first provincial-level laboratory unveiled in Hunan. Since its establishment over a year ago, it has gathered a strong lineup of academician and expert teams and has vigorously sprinted in the field of scientific and technological innovation, achieving fruitful results in its initial phase of development. It has accelerated the layout of scientific and technological innovation, promoted the orderly operation of physical facilities, actively carried out in-depth cooperation between the university and enterprises, comprehensively promoted the integration of industry, education, research, and application, fully demonstrated the gathering effect of talents, highlighted the effectiveness of providing advice for government decision-making, and yielded fruitful results in original scientific research and tackling key problems.
Academician Chen Xiaohong pointed out that Xiangjiang Laboratory attaches great importance to the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and industrial guidance. It plans to initiate the establishment of an investment fund, focusing on investment in the innovation chain layout of Xiangjiang Laboratory, accelerating the empowerment of industrial structure upgrading, and actively creating an ecological model of scientific and technological innovation with Hunan characteristics. Currently, Hunan Province is vigorously promoting the return of university alumni to start businesses and promote development. She hopes that at the intersection of cutting-edge science and technology and industrial forefront, Xiangjiang Laboratory and the alumni of HUTB can work together to connect the entire chain from basic research, applied research, achievement transformation to industrial development. This will inject strong innovation power into achieving self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology as well as high-quality development in Hunan.
The participants watched the advertising video of Xiangjiang Laboratory together and listened to the introduction of key projects and fund planning. Alumni entrepreneurs highly praised the scientific and technological innovation achievements of the Xiangjiang Laboratory and engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges regarding investment fund-related matters.
On the morning of November 5, Gan Dejian, Member of CPC HUTB Committee and Vice President of HUTB, led more than 20 alumni entrepreneurs to visit and exchange ideas at the Yuelu Mountain National University Science and Technology Town. Qu Zhifeng, Director of the Management Committee of the Science and Technology Town, and relevant department heads attended the exchange.
In the exhibition hall of the Science and Technology Town, the entrepreneurs watched an advertising video. During the symposium, Director Qu provided a detailed introduction to the location advantages, industrial positioning, and preferential policies of the Science and Technology Town. He promised to provide excellent services and support for the alumni entrepreneurs to start their businesses in the park, aiming to achieve mutual benefits and contribute to the development of the Xiangjiang New Area. The alumni entrepreneurs highly praised the achievements made in scientific and technological innovation, technology transfer, and other aspects of the Science and Technology Town. They expressed their intention to seek extensive cooperation opportunities, deepen exchanges and connections, and contribute to the development of the Xiangjiang New Area.
Vice President Gan Dejian expressed his gratitude for the reception by the Science and Technology Town. He stated that organizing alumni entrepreneurs to visit and exchange ideas in the Science and Technology Town is an important measure to implement the "Alumni Gathering in Hunan" program initiated by the Provincial CPC Committee, and to promote high-quality development in Hunan. HUTB will further strengthen the promotion of the investment environment in the Xiangjiang New Area, guide alumni to invest in their hometowns, and make greater contributions to the "Three Highlands, Four New Missions" strategy and high-quality development in Hunan.
In celebration of the 74th anniversary of the founding of HUTB, alumni are contributing to the employment work. On the afternoon of November 3, the HUTB 2023 Alumni Enterprise Job Fair was held on the 2nd floor of Block B of Xiangjiang Building. The job fair attracted many graduating students from the class of 2024 and lower-grade students who came for job interviews and consultation. The atmosphere at the event was lively and enthusiastic.
More than 40 alumni enterprises participated in this job fair, including Rainbow DIGITAL Commercial Co., Ltd., Beijing Xueersi Education Technology Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Smartcom Business Co., Limited, and Guangdong Kinlong Hardware Products Co., Ltd. These companies covered over 150 positions, including technical engineers, regional purchase and sales managers, administrative specialists, structural engineers, and more. The number of job openings reached 1,500, demonstrating the alumni enterprises' care and attention towards HUTB's graduates.
In celebration of the 74th anniversary of the founding of HUTB, alumni returned to campus to share their experiences and insights. On the afternoon of November 4, HUTB held an alumni sharing forum in the Yingcai Lecture Hall on the South Campus. Lu Mingyong, an alumnus from the Class of 1991, who majored in Planning and Statistics and is currently the Dean of the Tourism College of Jishou University and a member of the Standing Committee of the 13th CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, and Shu Bin, an alumnus from the Class of 2012 majoring in Marketing and the founder of Haitunshenghuo, Houyun Information, and Houzhi brands, as well as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Alumni Entrepreneur Association, gave a sharing presentation to the faculty and students of HUTB.
Alumnus Lu Mingyong shared his experience and purpose of climbing Mount Everest with the theme "Forge Ahead and Scale New Heights". Firstly, it was for academic exploration, leaving valuable first-hand data for teaching and research and laying a foundation for future research. Secondly, it was to break the stereotype of university professors in society. Thirdly, it was to enhance the reputation of his alma mater and employer by achieving personal recognition. He expressed sincere gratitude to his mentors and encouraged students, "You may never climb a mountain in your life, but you must have a mountain in your heart that serves as your goal and direction; we, the HUTB community, are a group of people with passion, courage, resilience, and determination, always seeking to conquer new heights."
Alumnus Shu Bin delivered a presentation with the theme "A Reed of Thought" and shared life advice with his fellow students. Firstly, he encouraged them to "let their brains dance" by overcoming mental inertia and engaging in independent and effective thinking. Secondly, he emphasized the importance of "relationship with others", urging them to take care of their physical well-being and adopt a balanced and honest approach to interpersonal relationships. Thirdly, he highlighted the significance of "overlooked common sense", advising against neglecting those closest to us and betraying the truth. Fourthly, he emphasized the value of humility, urging everyone to maintain a humble attitude towards objective laws and absorb nutrients to become stronger. Fifthly, he stressed the need to have a proper understanding of "life" and to seize the present moment. Lastly, he advocated for a "futurist" mindset, encouraging students to push their limits and achieve a better future.
Two outstanding alumni shared their life experiences and insights, serving as a guiding light for their fellow students and inspiring them to reflect and resonate. The alumni's presentations successfully concluded amidst enthusiastic applause.
On the afternoon of November 4, the "Sports · HUTB Power" Alumni Basketball Friendly Match was held at the Yangfan Stadium in the South Campus. Changsha Alumni Basketball Team competed against HUTB's male staff basketball team, using the game to strengthen the deep emotional connection between alumni and their alma mater.
