HUTB Holds Third Session of First Labour Union Member Congress

On the afternoon of April 9, HUTB held the Third Session of the First Labour Union Member Congress at the Xiangjiang Lecture Hall in the Xiangjiang Building. Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), and Liao Xiangyue, Deputy Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee and President of HUTB, along with other Chief Leaders and CPC HUTB Committee members attended the conference. Representatives of the Labour Union members of HUTB attended the congress. The congress was hosted by Xiao Xiaoqin, Chairman of the Labour Union.

Before the congress, a preparatory meeting was held. Yi Mianyang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee, delivered the “Report on Congress Preparation Work". After a show of hands vote by all official delegates, the congress agenda, presidium and secretary-general list, delegation head and deputy head list, and election and voting procedures were unanimously approved.

Subsequently, the formal session of the congress began with the solemn national anthem.

According to the election procedures of the congress, Comrade Yi Mianyang was unanimously elected as the new Chairman of the Labour Union through a secret ballot by all the delegates.

The congress reviewed the Labour Union work report, the audit report on Labour Union funds, as well as the method for selecting advanced collective and individual in Labour Union work (trial), and passed relevant resolutions.

Secretary Chen Xiaohong, on behalf of the CPC HUTB Committee, warmly congratulated the successful convening of the congress. She expressed sincere greetings to all congress delegates, Labour Union staff, and the vast number of faculty, students, and staff who have worked diligently for the development of the university. She extended heartfelt thanks to all delegates for their conscientious performance and active work.

Secretary Chen Xiaohong expressed three hopes and requirements for the various levels of the university's labour union organizations. Firstly, she emphasized the need to continuously strengthen ideological and political guidance. It is necessary to uphold the leadership of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in the Labour Union’s work, fully leverage the role of ideological and political guidance, and promote deeper and more solid work. Furthermore, it is important to integrate theoretical learning and the tempering of Party spirit with the actual work, continuously enhancing the ability and level of fulfilling responsibilities. Efforts should be made to further guide faculty and staff to strengthen their political, ideological, and emotional identification with the Party's basic theories, basic line, and basic strategies, effectively assuming the political responsibility of uniting and leading faculty and staff to align with the Party, appreciate the Party, and follow the Party.

Secondly, deepen democratic management and supervision. It is necessary to conduct in-depth frontline research, listen to the opinions and suggestions of the faculty and staff on the university's work, and jointly promote the development of the university. Efforts should focus on actively providing suggestions and ideas regarding aspects such as education and teaching, talent cultivation, team building, life services, logistical support, and campus governance, making positive contributions to the comprehensive promotion of the university's high-quality development. Additionally, it is important to actively explore new forms and content of democratic management, ensuring the faculty and staff's right to information, participation, expression, and supervision.

Thirdly, continuously optimize the quality of service measures. It is essential to effectively play the role of a bridge and link, taking the connection and service of faculty and staff as the lifeline of the work, continuously doing practical things for teachers and students, and constantly meeting their aspirations for a better life. Furthermore, it is important to comprehensively safeguard the rights and interests of the faculty and staff, becoming a trustworthy, reliable, indispensable confidant and close friend to everyone. Efforts should be made to further improve the service system, comprehensively carry out diverse and colorful activities through multiple measures, enhancing the faculty and staff's sense of belonging, gain, and happiness.
