2024-04-22

From April 12 to 14, the 27th China University Student Tennis Championship regional competition (Central China division), hosted by the Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC), was successfully held in Huanggang City. Over 200 athletes from 28 universities including Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University, Hunan University, East China Jiaotong University, and HUTB participated in the competition.

After three days of intense competition, under the guidance of head coaches Li Dongqi, Wang Yin, and Zeng Tongyi, HUTB’s Xiangjiang Tennis Team fought tenaciously. The men's team achieved a historic high for Hunan Province by winning the runner-up in the Group A team event of the China University Student Tennis Championship regional competition (Central China division). The women's team secured the sixth place in the Group A team event.

The men's team performed steadily in the group stage, winning all their matches against China University of Geosciences, Hefei University of Technology, and Wuhan Institute of Technology with a score of 3 to 0. They advanced to the quarterfinals as the top team in their group. In the subsequent knockout stage, they defeated China Three Gorges University to enter the top four and then beat Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics to advance to the final. In the final, our team competed against last year's champion, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and ultimately won the team runner-up title. This is also the best historical achievement for universities from Hunan Province in the China University Student Tennis Championship regional competition (Central China division).

The women's team won their matches against Wuhan Institute of Technology and College of Science and Technology, Nanchang University, in the group stage, advancing to the quarterfinals. They faced great pressure in the subsequent matches but fought their best in every game. In the end, they achieved sixth place in the women's team event. (Reported by School of Sports and Health)
