HUTB Holds Opening Concert of 2024 Spring/Summer Campus Music Festival

The traditional and the modern complement each other, opening up a journey of spring and summer music on campus. On the evening of March 28, the themed symphony concert of HUTB 2024 Spring/Summer Campus Music Festival was splendidly staged at the Xiangjiang Lecture Hall. Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Yang Kun, Secretary of the CPC Committee and Director of the Department of Emergency Management of Hunan Province, Liu Guoquan, Member of CPC HUTB Committee and Vice President of HUTB, Zhang Ling, Vice President of HUTB, along with guests, faculty, and students, enjoyed together the symphonic extravaganza that not only promotes the excellent traditional Chinese culture but also showcases the style of the new generation.

The concert was hosted by the CPC Committee Publicity Department, HUTB Youth League Committee, and the School of Music. Professor Xiao Ming, Dean of the School of Music and a national first-class conductor, served as the music director and chief conductor, while the young conductor Xing Hancheng was invited as the guest conductor, and the renowned performer Liao Haoyue acted as the principal violinist. The Xiangjiang Symphony Orchestra of the university performed throughout the concert, with participation from young faculty members of the School of Music.

In the first half of the concert, under the baton of Professor Xiao Ming, the heartfelt melody of "I Love You, China" resounded, evoking emotions akin to tidal waves, brimming with deep love for the motherland. Every note carried the warmth of emotion, stirring the hearts of the audience, instilling a genuine sense of pride and admiration for the splendid achievements of the motherland.

The renowned performer Liao Haoyue collaborated with the Xiangjiang Symphony Orchestra of the university to present the complete version of the violin concerto "Butterfly Lovers," delivering a beautiful and moving melody that eloquently narrated the epic love story of Zhu Yingtai and Liang Shanbo. The part depicting their love is characterized by a sweet and gentle melody, like a meandering stream, showcasing the joy and deep affection of their initial encounter; the resistance to marriage section sees a sudden, intense change in the music, expressing the struggle and defiance against feudal ethics; the transformation into butterflies part returns to a tranquil melody, resembling the fluttering of butterflies, symbolizing the eternal and sublime nature of their love.

Later, Liao Haoyue returned to the stage to perform a solo piece "Tambourin Chinois" by the Austrian violin master Fritz Kreisler, injecting the concert with her superb and exquisite violin playing skills, infusing the performance with surging power.

In the second half, under the baton of the young conductor Xing Hancheng, the Xiangjiang Symphony Orchestra of the university performed a modern musical suite, leading the audience into a fantastic and wonderful world. The suite's melodies are graceful, undulating, and melodious, leaving people feeling relaxed, happy, and intoxicated. The audience seemed to be transported to a mysterious and beautiful virtual world, whether it was a fantastical palace, a tranquil mountain village, a fairyland of snow, or verdant mountains and forests, experiencing the wondrous atmosphere so different from the real world.

Finally, the Chief Leaders took the stage to sing along with the audience to songs including "Love of the Small Village," "The Story of Time," "The Red Flag Flying," and the “Song of Hunan University of Technology and Business,” bringing the concert to a successful conclusion amidst a lively and vibrant atmosphere full of enthusiasm.
