HUTB Conveys and Studies Spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's Important Speeches

On July 2, HUTB held a meeting in the Xiangjiang Lecture Hall of Xiangjiang Building to convey and study the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speeches at the National Science and Technology Conference, the National Science and Technology Award Conference, and the General Assembly of CAS and CAE Members. Chen Xiaohong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee, gave a special report and provided requirements for further advancing HUTB's science and technology innovation work. The meeting was chaired by Liao Xiangyue, Deputy Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee and President of HUTB.
All Chief Leaders, CPC HUTB Committee members, officials at or above the section chief level, Party branch secretaries of faculty and students, representatives of democratic parties, and representatives of faculty and student Party members, totaling over 2,000 people, attended the report meeting. The live broadcast sub-venues were set up in the Zhizhi Lecture Hall in Xiangjiang Building, the Yingcai Lecture Hall in the Library, as well as in classrooms in the Teaching Building on the south campus, and the Hongyi Lecture Hall on the north campus.
Academician Chen Xiaohong stated that this conference is an important meeting of global significance, held at a crucial period for advancing the construction of a strong nation and the great cause of national rejuvenation through Chinese-style modernization. The CPC Central Committee has issued a total mobilization to accelerate achieving high-level self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology and to build a strong nation of technology. General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech is forward-looking, broad in vision, profound in thought, and rich in content. It has strong political, theoretical, strategic, and guiding significance and represents a historic and important document marking a new height in the development of Marxist views on science and technology. It provides fundamental guidance and an action plan for advancing China’s scientific and technological development in the new era and on the new journey.
Academician Chen Xiaohong focused on four key aspects: "fully affirming the historic achievements in China's science and technology innovation," "providing insightful analysis of the important experiences for advancing science and technology in the new era," "systematically clarifying the new situation and fundamental connotations of building a strong technological nation," and "comprehensively outlining the main tasks and specific measures for building a strong technological nation." Drawing from her personal experiences and insights gained from attending the conference, she conveyed and interpreted the spirit of the 2024 National Science and Technology Conference, the National Science and Technology Award Conference, and the General Assembly of CAS and CAE Members.
Academician Chen Xiaohong noted that the conference fully recognized China's historic achievements in fundamental and frontier research, strategic high-tech areas, innovation-driven high-quality development, science and technology system reforms, and international open cooperation. It proposed and thoroughly discussed the "eight 'persistences'" as key experiences for advancing the science and technology sector and systematically explained the new challenges, important missions, and the "five 'possessions'" that define the fundamental aspects of building a strong technological nation. She focused on interpreting the main tasks and specific measures for building a strong technological nation as outlined in the conference: first, fully utilize the advantages of the new national system to accelerate high-level self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology; second, effectively promote the deep integration of technological and industrial innovation to support the development of new quality productive forces; third, thoroughly deepen the reform of science and technology systems and mechanisms to fully unleash innovation and creativity; fourth, advance the development of education, science, technology, and talent in an integrated manner to build a competitive talent advantage; fifth, deeply implement the concept of building a community of shared future for mankind and promote scientific and technological open cooperation.
"The baton of history has now passed to our generation." Academician Chen Xiaohong called on all faculty, staff, and scientific workers at the university to deeply study and implement the important speeches delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the National Science and Technology Conference, the National Science and Technology Award Conference, and the General Assembly of CAS and CAE Members. They should consciously integrate their academic pursuits into the grand cause of building a strong technological nation, set ambitious goals, work with determination and unity, and contribute the wisdom and strength of HUTB and Xiangjiang Laboratory to achieving new accomplishments that honor the era and serve the people.
