HUTB Holds Opening Ceremony of 2024 (Autumn/Winter) Campus Music Season and Welcome Concert

With fragrant blossoms and melodious tunes, a new chapter begins; As traditions are passed down, the autumn-winter campus plays a grand symphony. On the evening of September 11, the university held the opening ceremony of the 2024 (Autumn/Winter) Campus Music Season and a welcome concert, themed "Pass Down Traditions amid Fragrant Blossoms," at the Xiangjiang Lecture Hall in the Xiangjiang Building. Attending the event were Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and CAE Academician, Liao Xiangyue, Deputy Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee and President of HUTB, Hou Junjun and Zhao Hua, both members of CPC HUTB Committee and Vice Presidents of HUTB. They joined faculty and students to enjoy an immersive musical feast, marking the start of the new semester.
At the opening ceremony, Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and CAE Academician, announced the official opening of the HUTB 2024 (Autumn/Winter) Campus Music Season.
This concert is hosted by the Publicity Department of the CPC Committee, the HUTB Committee of the CYLC, and the School of Music. Professor Xiao Ming, a national first-class conductor and the Dean of the School of Music, served as the music director and conductor. The Xiangjiang Symphony Orchestra performed throughout the event, featuring Zhang Yinyue and Fan Chunyi, both renowned young musicians and national first-class performers, along with performances by young faculty from the School of Music. Liu Qing, a member of All-China Youth Federation, a member of Hunan Youth Federation, and Vice Chairperson of Hunan Literary and Art Volunteers’Association, served as the host.
The concert opened with the lively and dynamic orchestral piece "Ruslan and Lyudmila Overture." The music burst forth with a vibrant energy, instantly igniting the atmosphere in the venue and inspiring the audience. The pipa concerto "Little Sisters of the Grassland" features a cheerful melody and clear rhythm, celebrating the noble qualities of the sisters Longmei and Yurong, who love their community and courageously overcome difficulties. The soprano solo "Give You a Flower of Oriental Jasmine" is characterized by its graceful and melodious style, heartfelt and natural delivery, captivating the audience. It beautifully expresses the delicate national sentiment and the perfect blend of exquisite traditional music with modern flair. The duet "Teacher, I Always Think of You" features a flowing melody and heartfelt strains, accompanied by a continuous stream of notes that express deep affection and longing for the teacher. The orchestral piece "Masked Ball" features a unique expression and outstanding artistic effect, flowing with deep and mysterious power, showcasing the splendid atmosphere of the ball. The baritone solo "Roaring Yangtze Flows Ever Eastward" is rich in historical resonance and philosophical reflection, expressing reflections on life with a blend of boldness and subtlety, and soaring tones that carry a profound depth.
The duet "I Watch the Moon from Afar" paints a touching picture of endless longing and pursuit of love, resonating deeply with the softest parts of the heart. The solo "Gratitude" is filled with heartfelt appreciation, expressing sincere thanks to beloved family, friends, and mentors through a tender voice and touching lyrics. The erhu solo "Galloping Warhorses" is invigorating and rhythmic, expressing the noble aspirations of soldiers dedicated to defending the frontier and protecting their homeland. The combination of jinghu and orchestral music in "Impression of the Grand Mansion Gate" relies on rich ethnic melodies to beautifully convey patriotic feelings and the changing tides of different eras. The duet "The Lion King" uses a rich variety of musical expressions to showcase the magnificent landscapes of the African continent and the cycle of life. The orchestral piece "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" portrays the chivalry and tenderness of the martial arts world, along with the dynamics of the jianghu (rivers and lakes) scene. With grand and powerful melodies, it brings classic martial arts imagery to life, stirring the blood and leaving a lasting impression.
Finally, the Chief Leaders took the stage to sing "My Motherland and Me," "The Same Song," and "Song of Hunan University of Technology and Business" with all faculty and students. The atmosphere was vibrant and filled with emotion, expressing deep love for the great motherland, heartfelt blessings for the teachers, a warm welcome to the new students, and eager anticipation for the bright future of HUTB. With this, the opening ceremony and welcome concert concluded successfully.
