HUTB Holds Grand Opening Ceremony for New Students in Class 2024

Answer the questions of our time and unite pioneering forces. On the morning of September 9, HUTB held a grand opening ceremony for the new students in class 2024 at the Zhuifeng Track and Field Stadium in the north campus. Chief leaders including Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Liao Xiangyue, Deputy Director of CPC HUTB Committee and President of HUTB; Wang Minggao, Director of HUTB Academic Committee, along with other all university leaders, member of the CPC Committee, and senior professors attended the ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by President Liao Xiangyue.
The opening ceremony of the new academic year began with a solemn flag-raising ceremony. All students and staff stood up, sang the national anthem, and saluted the rising flag.
During the badge-wearing ceremony, Secretary Chen Xiaohong presented the university badge to the representatives of the new students. All new students solemnly wore the badge on their chests. At this moment, they officially became members of HUTB, embracing the spirit of the university motto: "Sincerity & Credibility; Pragmatism & Innovation" in their hearts and actions.
At the ceremony, Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and CAE Academician, delivered the first lecture of the semester titled "Answering the Questions of Our Time and Uniting Pioneering Forces." Secretary Chen Xiaohong pointed out that this year marks the 75th anniversary of HUTB. Over the past 75 years, the university has consistently embraced a commitment to serving society, a spirit of perseverance and self-improvement, a philosophy of practicality and innovation, and a pursuit of excellence, achieving significant historical progress alongside the nation's remarkable leap from standing up to becoming prosperous and strong. Choosing HUTB means choosing to give wings to your intellectual and scientific dreams, cultivating habits of excellence, diligence, and civility, affirming a strong sense of patriotism, leading in a great era, exploring profound knowledge, and realizing noble values. It is also a choice to confidently stride towards first-class excellence.
Secretary Chen Xiaohong encouraged all the new students of Class 2024 to answer three important questions. First, they should address the "Three Questions of Patriotism" to unite the pioneering spirit of sincere devotion to the country. In 1935, President Zhang Boling of Nankai University posed these questions: "Are you Chinese? Do you love China? Do you wish for China to be well?" As times rapidly change, the essence of patriotism remains constant. Today, the baton of history is passed to you. I hope that students will take root in the land of China and integrate into its development, studying for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Use the unwavering power of your ideals to awaken the inner drive to pursue your dreams, maintaining both an upward gaze at the stars and a grounded approach to reality. Stay deeply rooted in the rich soil of our country and nation, consistently growing upwards while solidifying your determination, confidence, and resolve. Always embody the main themes of patriotism, self-improvement, and dedication.
Second, you should address the challenge of interdisciplinary integration, uniting the pioneering spirit of innovative breakthroughs. Interdisciplinary integration is an inevitable trend, and talents skilled in cross-disciplinary innovation will become the backbone of our country’s future elite. Only by focusing on the strategic needs of the country and the demands of social and economic development, and by continually breaking through existing knowledge and boundaries, can we explore new knowledge, new fields, and new technologies through interdisciplinary integration to achieve stronger competitiveness. Our university practices the concept of integrating "New engineering courses + new business courses + new liberal arts courses" with the development of sciences, leading the way in interdisciplinary education nationwide. I hope that students will actively engage in interdisciplinary integration and diligently learn and practice, striving to cultivate a group of master-level talents, including many strategic scientists, top innovators, and outstanding engineers. Work hard to become the main force in building a strong nation in science and technology, as well as a strong cultural nation.
Third, you should address the challenge of growth, uniting the resilient spirit of hard work. Adversity refines and shapes success. There are no glories achieved through waiting; only brilliance earned through effort. Success does not come without reason; it is the result of persistent dedication. Hard work is the ladder of life, and diligence is the foundation of success. I hope that students will face setbacks and difficulties head-on, step out of their comfort zones, challenge new limits, unleash their "inner potential," and exert their utmost effort. Strive "without regrets and strive without reservation," and in the bold pursuit of "I can, I will, I’m on my way," become the most beautiful scenery.
Secretary Chen Xiaohong sent a message to all the new students of Class 2024: "The times call for you, and the future belongs to you! I hope everyone can achieve their best results on the great track of HUTB. May you chase the light, shine brightly, and become a beacon, full of passion and striving upwards. Courageously pursue your dreams and explore the vastness of the universe. I hope you all grow into well-rounded builders and successors of socialism, making meaningful contributions in this promising era. Use your youthful strength to write a new chapter of Chinese-style modernization!"
Chase the dreams of youth and be the freest light. Before the ceremony began, exciting performances such as "Youthful You," "Chasing Dream with a Childlike Heart," "Medals," and "Together for a Shared Future" were presented, filling the venue with youthful energy and vibrant enthusiasm.
Associate Professor Zhang Xinyu from the School of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Computing spoke as a representative of the faculty, warmly welcoming the new students of Class 2024. He encouraged the new students with his "Three Beliefs": first, believe in the power of belief; second, believe in the power of kindness; and third, believe in the power of knowledge. He sincerely wishes for students to grow into high-quality talents of the new era, equipped with a global perspective, a sense of national pride, professional competence, and a compassionate heart.
New student representatives Liu Song, a master's student in Electronic Information from the Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, Luo Jiayu, an undergraduate from Xiangjiang Academy "Hong Class," Liang Yiming, an undergraduate in Resource and Environmental Science from the School of Resources and Environment, and Liu Rucan, an undergraduate in Physical Education from the School of Sports and Health, spoke and expressed their commitment to upholding the university motto of "Sincerity & Credibility; Pragmatism & Innovation." They pledged to integrate their personal aspirations into the Party and national endeavors, carrying light in their eyes, love in their hearts, and strength in their steps, as they bravely pursue their dreams across the vast seas and stars.
Led by Li Haohan, a student from Class 2402 in Electronic Information Engineering at the School of Intelligent Engineering and Manufacturing, all new students raised their right fists and solemnly vowed: to love the country and obey the law, to cherish and honor the university; to study diligently and strive for excellence; to uphold propriety and cultivate oneself, emphasizing action; to be grateful to their parents and aspire to succeed; to contribute to national strength and take on responsibilities; and to work hard for the rejuvenation of China. They committed to making excellence, diligence, and civility their habits, realizing their youthful dreams through passionate efforts!
At the end of the ceremony, all teachers and students sang "Ode to the Motherland" and the "Song of Hunan University of Technology and Business," celebrating the great motherland and the vibrant spirit of HUTB, while looking forward to a bright and inspiring college life.
Zhang Yidan, a master's student from the Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, expressed that the opening ceremony was filled with enthusiasm and the entire faculty and students were spirited. She felt truly happy and proud to be part of HUTB and to pursue her studies here. Listening to the first lesson delivered by Academician Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, deepened her understanding of her specialty and scientific research. She is committed to being disciplined and striving for excellence in her future studies, aiming to become an outstanding student who "seeks light, becomes light, and radiates light" at the university.
Wu Yatong, an undergraduate student from the School of Computer Science, expressed that her strong interest in software development led her to choose HUTB. She believes that the university will allow her to learn more cutting-edge knowledge and technologies in artificial intelligence. Let us join HUTB in pursuing light in the new era and embarking on a new journey, growing here into pillars of support for the nation’s construction and development.
