HUTB Holds Opening Ceremony for New Students in Class 2025

Eight thousand minds converge at HUTB, where innovation fuels their dreams to shine. On the morning of September 15, the opening ceremony for the new students in class 2025 of HUTB is held at the Zhuifeng Track and Field Stadium on the North Campus.
Academician Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee and Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, addresses the entire 2025 freshman class: You, in the prime of your youth, are meeting HUTB, a university also in its prime, striving forward with great momentum. This encounter represents the most beautiful aspect of youth. You are embarking on the magnificent journey to realize the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, shouldering the significant responsibilities entrusted by our era. She expresses her hope for everyone's future academic life: to serve the country with the sincerity of “having no regrets being born in China”; to cultivate noble character with the aspiration of “cultivating oneself, putting the family in order, and contributing to the world”; to explore the unknown with the determination of “hoisting the sail to ride the wind and cross the sea”; to master solid skills with the perseverance of “willing to sit on a cold bench for ten years”; and to advance the era with the responsibility of “like a tidal wave rider, standing atop the surging tide”. She wishes that every student, on this fertile ground of the university, upholds the spirit of the university motto and demonstrates a demeanor of “confidence, perseverance, enthusiasm, and vitality.” May you take root deeply and grow upward, writing your own splendid chapters, and become high-quality talents with a global vision, patriotic sentiment, professional competence, and benevolent hearts.
Liao Xiangyue, Deputy Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee and President of HUTB, Liu Guoquan, Director of the HUTB Academic Committee and Executive Deputy Director of the Xiangjiang Laboratory, along with other all university leaders, and members of the CPC HUTB Committee, attend the ceremony. Gan Dejian, Member of the CPC HUTB Committee and Vice President of HUTB, chaired the ceremony.
The opening ceremony commences with a solemn flag-raising ceremony. All faculty and students stand in respectful silence, singing the national anthem and saluting the rising flag.
At the ceremony, President Liao Xiangyue, on behalf of Academician Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee, and all faculty and students, extends a warm welcome and heartfelt congratulations to the 2025 freshman cohort. He states that in the coming years, students will share their days and nights with HUTB, a fertile ground for growth and a stage for pursuing and realizing dreams. The university has gathered multiple strengths, ready to support everyone in reaching higher and seeing further. He says that students will ride the power of integrity towards the sun, the power of leapfrogging upward, the power of excellence forward, the power of innovation towards truth, and the power of integration towards the new. "Born in a flourishing age, we should live up to it," he says. He expresses the hope that students will strive to become promising young people of the new era with ideals, responsibility, the courage to endure hardship, and the willingness to work hard. May you vigorously write the chapter of youth that boldly shoulders the responsibility for Chinese modernization, allowing your youth to shine brilliantly on the path of serving and strengthening the country, on the path of interdisciplinary integration, and on the path of sincere passion.
Tang Xiangbo, Vice Dean of the Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, speaks as a representative of the faculty, warmly welcoming the new students of Class 2025. He encourages all 2025 freshmen to take root at HUTB, “a university experiencing its fastest and best development in history, with the highest and most resonant reputation.” May you inspire patriotic fervor with the grandeur of the military parade, guide your personal growth with core socialist values, and compose glorious chapters of the era through relentless struggle. Build a solid foundation of belief, nurture an upward-looking spirit, and strengthen the wings of knowledge to become your best selves at HUTB.
Postgraduate student Zheng Bowen from the Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, postgraduate student Guo Meiyao from the School of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Computing, undergraduate student Guo Jincheng from the School of Accounting, and undergraduate student Hou Yi from the School of International Business deliver speeches as freshman representatives. They express their commitment to upholding the university motto of "Sincerity & Credibility; Pragmatism & Innovation." They pledge to make excellence, diligence, and civility their habits, to take deep roots and grow upward, to strengthen their ideals and hone their skills, striving to become useful talents for the nation and its people in this new era, and jointly write a splendid chapter as members of the HUTB community.
Under the leadership of Wu Chenyi, an undergraduate student from the School of Management Science and Engineering, all freshmen raise their right fists and solemnly pledge: "We will bear in mind the HUTB motto, shoulder the mission of our times, and set lofty aspirations. We will respect teachers and traditions, abide by the law, diligently study, seek truth, and innovate. We will take deep roots and study assiduously; grow upward and pursue excellence. We will live up to our youth, our era, and our motherland. We assure the CPC of our commitment; strengthening the nation is our promise!"
Prior to the ceremony's commencement, faculty and students present musical performances for the 2025 freshman cohort, including the songs "Let Us Set Out Together," "I Truly Believe," "Dream Chaser," and "Red Sun," along with a violin improvisation. These enthusiastic musical offerings celebrate the new students' official enrollment.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, all faculty and students sing "On the Taihang Mountains," "Without the Communist Party, There Would Be No New China," and the "Song of Hunan University of Technology and Business." Together, they praise the great Party and motherland, consolidate the youthful strength for HUTB's progressive journey, and jointly envision a new university life dedicated to innovation and dream-chasing.
