The 3rd Hunan Provincial Postgraduate Artificial Intelligence Innovative Competition Held in HUTB

On December 3, sponsored by the Hunan Provincial Department of Education and co-sponsored by the Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence, the final of the 3rd Hunan Provincial Postgraduate Artificial Intelligence Innovative Competition organized by HUTB and Xiangjiang Laboratory was held in HUTB both online and offline. 72 teams from 19 graduate colleges and universities in the whole province, including Central South University, Hunan University and HUTB, took part in the final competition.
The opening ceremony was held in Conference Room 1511 in the Economic Management Complex. Liu Guoquan, Vice President of HUTB, Zheng Jinhua, Vice Chairman of Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence, and Chen Aibin, Secretary General of Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence, attended the ceremony. 15 evaluation experts from 9 colleges and universities and 3 enterprises, and heads of graduate school and the School of Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies attended the meeting. Representatives from all circles, teachers and students of the colleges and universities watched the opening ceremony online.
On behalf of the HUTB, Vice President Liu Guoquan expressed heartfelt thanks to the Hunan Provincial Department of Education and Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence for their strong support and care and extended a warm welcome to the evaluation experts, teachers and students participating in the competition. He pointed out that HUTB leaves no stone unturned to cultivate the scientific research innovation, practical application and comprehensive quality ability of graduate students, and actively explores the talent training model with its characteristics. He hoped this competition can further stimulate the innovation enthusiasm of graduate students, improve the training quality, the innovation ability and professional practice ability of graduate students, and help cultivate high-quality talents for the artificial intelligence industry of our province so as to strongly support the implementation of the "Three Highlands, Four New Missions " strategy in Hunan Province.
Zheng Jinhua, Vice Chairman of the Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence, delivered a speech as a representative. He pointed out that under the background of vigorously practicing the strategy of "Three Highlands, Four New Missions " in our province, the mission of training high-level innovative talents is particularly urgent. The goal of the 3rd Hunan Provincial Postgraduate Artificial Intelligence Innovative Competition sponsored by the Hunan Provincial Department of Education is to guide graduate students in the province to focus on the AI industry, take root in academic study, and strive to grow into high-level innovative talents in advanced interdisciplinary studies field. At the same time, he emphasized that students should respond to the call of the 20th CPC National Congress, be brave in scientific and technological innovation to bridge the "bottleneck" gaps, so as to become the leading force of the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Chen Aibin, Secretary General of the Hunan Association for Artificial Intelligence, published the competition rules and the discipline of the participants, and introduced in detail the process, judging rules and matters needing attention of the online defence.
Adhering to the principles of "innovation" and "application", this competition aims at "AI enabling" and "application innovation" to guide and encourage young students to carry forward the spirit of innovation, improve their practical ability, and contribute to the deep integration and rapid development of the digital economy, artificial intelligence, traditional industries and the real economy. A total of 239 entries were received, setting an all-time high record. After the online review of the preliminary competition, a total of 72 works were shortlisted for the final which was conducted in the form of online video defense, and after a fierce competition, 25 first-prize works, 47 second-prize works, 47 third-prize works and 25 excellent instructors were selected. The HUTB, Central South University, Central South University of Forestry and Technology, and the University of South China were awarded the Outstanding Organization Award.
