HUTB Holds Work Conference for New Spring Semester of 2024

The dragon soars with auspicious signs, ushering in a new chapter, as we unite our hearts and efforts to embark on a new journey. On the morning of February 28, the university held the work conference for the new spring semester of 2024 at the Xiangjiang Lecture Hall in Xiangjiang Building. Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and CAE Academician, and Liao Xiangyue, Deputy Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee and President of HUTB, along with other Chief Leaders and CPC HUTB Committee members attended the conference. All division-level cadres, all department-level cadres, heads of departments (offices), and representatives from various democratic parties attended the conference. The conference was chaired by President Liao Xiangyue.
The conference began with the solemn national anthem. He Longde, a member of CPC HUTB Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, read out the 2023 annual assessment results of the university's secondary units. The Chief Leaders in attendance presented awards to the secondary units that were rated as "excellent" and "good" in the 2023 annual assessment. Afterwards, the main responsible persons of each secondary unit came to the stage one by one to submit their “Task Responsibility Statement for Goal Management of Secondary Units”, starting a new journey for the new semester with full confidence.
Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of the Xiangjiang Laboratory, and CAE Academician, delivered a speech at the conference with the theme "Inspiring the Spirit of Vigor and Vitality, Creating Achievements Together for Development". She comprehensively summarized the work achievements of the university in 2023, and made scientific arrangements and careful deployment for the key tasks of 2024.
Secretary Chen Xiaohong pointed out that in 2023, the unity and hard work of all teachers, students, and staff at the university, along with their enterprising spirit, have vigorously promoted the significant development of various undertakings at the university. These achievements include: conducting high-quality thematic education; making new progress in Party building and mass work; advancing to a new level in overall disciplinary strength; achieving new breakthroughs in educational and teaching work; demonstrating new results in cultivating top-notch innovative talents; continuously stimulating new vitality in research and innovation; making new achievements in building a high-level faculty team; taking new steps in exchanges, cooperation, and results transformation; showcasing a new look in campus construction and management; and reaching new heights in the university's reputation and popularity.
Secretary Chen Xiaohong stated that in 2024, facing the new demands, opportunities, and challenges in the development of higher education in the new era, the following key tasks should be focused on: Firstly, striving to achieve new results in the deepening and transformation of thematic education; secondly, striving to build a new path for synergistic education through "Party building + ideological and political education"; thirdly, making new strides in comprehensively deepening comprehensive reforms; fourthly, striving to achieve new breakthroughs in the level and strength of education; fifthly, striving to create a new pattern of autonomous cultivation of outstanding talents; sixthly, striving to reach new heights in research and innovation and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements; seventhly, striving to demonstrate a new outlook in the construction of faculty and cadre teams; eighthly, striving to continuously improve the well-being of the people.
Secretary Chen Xiaohong put forward the following work requirements: Firstly, emancipate the mind to seek development. We must further free ourselves from constraints, broaden our vision, and be proactive. Starting from reality, we should adhere to a problem-oriented approach, dare to innovate and break through, and effectively promote the high-quality development of the university through liberating our thinking and implementing our work effectively. Secondly, we must seize opportunities through innovation with high quality. We should always be at the forefront of the times, closely follow social trends and needs, enhance our awareness of opportunities and risks, strengthen systematic thinking, develop new quality productive forces, stand tall in academic research, and transform opportunities into a tremendous driving force for the development of the university. Thirdly, we must vigorously implement work and strive for first-class excellence. We should aspire to be executors, actors, and practical workers, fostering the spirit of "immediate action, real and effective implementation, and doing things well", transforming our work style for concrete implementation, rallying collective strength for implementation, focusing on practical aspects for implementation, and promoting a new leap in the development of the university's cause.
In his concluding speech, President Liao Xiangyue emphasized that the beginning determines the outcome, and the start determines the journey. He urged all secondary CPC organizations and units to promptly study and refine their annual work plans after the meeting. It is important to anchor the implementation of the major tasks of fostering virtue and cultivating talents, align with the strategic goals of the university's "Three Advances and Three Highs" plan, and seize the momentum with a proactive and determined attitude.
The conference concluded with everyone singing the "Song of Hunan University of Technology and Business" in unison. The melody was inspiring, and the singing motivated everyone to move forward. All faculty and staff members will unite their hearts and pursue first-class excellence, striving to push the university to achieve new accomplishments and create even greater brilliance in all aspects of its endeavors!
