Professor Zhu Youzhi, Former President of Hunan Academy of Social Sciences Comes to Give Lectures in HUTB

On the afternoon of November 24, as invited, Professor Zhu Youzhi, former President of Hunan Academy of Social Sciences and First Secretary of Kaihui Village Party Branch, gave a lecture entitled “Think from the Perspective of the Weak and Act with the Standard for the Strong”in F201, Lezhi Building. The lecture was presided over by Hu Yanxiang, Party Committee Secretary of the School of Law & Public Administration, and attended by the School’s management team as well as the teacher and student representatives.

Professor Zhu Youzhi expounded the connotation of the subject from two aspects: “many benefits of thinking from the perspective of the weak” and “endless prospects of acting with the standards of the strong”. He raised two questions, “What is Marxism?” and “Why is Chairman Mao great?”. And basing on vivid theories and his own personal experience of working in the rural areas for years, Professor Zhu analyzed the significance of thinking from the perspective of the weak and acting with the standards of the strong in driving the masses to get out of poverty and become rich. Professor Zhu also quoted the famous saying of Yang Changji, an educator of modern China, “I long for a land of idyllic beauty to grow trees as tall as the sky", to pass on to the teachers and students his idea ofcultivating talents for the country.

Secretary Hu Yanxiang pointed out that Professor Zhu declined the offer of a multimillion-dollar-a-year job and spent 11 years in earnestly helping the rural residents get out of poverty. Secretary Hu expressed that such great love and dedication is really awe-inspiring. She encouraged the students present to study hard and actively repay their hometown and contribute to the society on their future job positions.

Professor Zhu Youzhi is an expert of the Project Review Committee of the National Social Science Fund of China and a doctoral supervisor. He was Vice Dean of Xiangtan Institute of Technology (now Hunan University of Science and Technology), Dean of Changde Normal University (now Hunan University of Arts and Science), a member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee, and President of Hunan Academy of Social Sciences. He is currently First Secretary of Kaihui Village Party branch. He has been studying the rural economy for years and has presided over and participated in many national social science fund projects. Many of his research results have become the decision-making basis for the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and Hunan Provincial Government.
