HNUC Holds the 24th English Speech Contest for University Students

Recently, the final of 24th English Speech Contest for University Students was held in Elite Conference Hall. Yang Shuigen, the Deputy Director of Office of Academic Affairs, Yang Jian, the Deputy Secretary of Party Committee of School of Foreign Languages and Xie Yajun, the Assistant Dean of School of Foreign Languages were present in this activity.
After summarizing the outstanding achievements of Hunan University of Commerce during academic competitions in recent years, Yang Shuigen raised three expectations and requirements for all students during English learning, like laying solid foundation for major and hoped that this English Speech Contest would be a complete success.
This contest was sponsored by Office of Academic Affairs, Office of Student Affairs and Youth League Committee and undertaken by School of Foreign Languages. After several rounds of selection, 18 players who came from various colleges entered the final (including speech on given topic and impromptu speech). All players were full of confidence on the stage to express their opinions and spoken frankly with assurance in fluent and excellent English, finally, they got lots of applause. After the contest, the judge Andrew commented on players during the final. Except for in-depth analysis on speech topic, he also affirmed the wonderful performance of players and encouraged all players to make great achievements in provincial English speech contest.
Finally, Liu Yiyu, Zhang Jie and Luo Wenwen who came from School of Foreign Languages won the first, second and third prize in professional group respectively; as for non-professional group, Yu Bin (College of Economics and Trade) and Zhao Yang (International Business School) got the first prize. The second prize winners included Li Ao (School of Mathematics and Statistics), Li Peiqi (School of Literature and Journalism) and Yuan Jie (Accounting College). Wang Qian (Accounting College), Yang Ningyi (College of Business Administration), Wen Ting (School of Finance and Finance) and Huang Longhui (College of Economics and Trade) ranked third in the contest.
