President & Academician Chen Xiaohong and Her Delegation Visits Zhuobi Village for Inspection of Poverty Alleviation and Granting of Special Award Fund of Chen Xiaohong Poverty Alleviation”

On July 7, a delegation led by President & Academician Chen Xiaohong and Vice Presidents Peng Jinqing, Li Dingjun, and Liu Guoquan visited Zhuobi Village to inspect the work of the poverty alleviation team stationed in the village and to grant the “Special Award Fund of Academician Chen Xiaohong Poverty Alleviation” to the outstanding students, rural teachers and volunteer teachers in the primary and secondary schools of poverty-stricken mountainous areas.

In the morning, the third session of the award fund granting ceremony was held in the multimedia classroom of Zhuobi Primary School. Under the President Chen’s proposal, this year, the quotas of 3 excellent rural teachers and 4 outstanding volunteer teachers were added, besidesthe existing award recipients of 36 outstanding local primary and middle school students. With the award fund in hand, the children gave out confident and sweet smiles on their faces.

After the award fund granting ceremony, President Chen, together with the School of Computer Science &Information Engineering, and the Research Institute of Big Data and Internet Innovation, jointly donated RMB70,000 to Zhuobi Primary School for its construction of the “Academician Library”, the multimedia conference room, schoolcreative cultural corridor, and other projects. She encouraged children to pursue science, study hard, and contribute to the society and the nation in the future.

The children gave President Chen their elaborately handmade photo albums and sang the song, “Invisible Wings”with her, in a bid to thank Aunt Chen for sheltering them from wind and rain, protecting their growth and bringing them hope. The children all expressed that they will study hard to repay the motherland and to live up to Aunt Chen's expectations.

In the afternoon, President Chen and her delegation inspected the roadbed construction project of Sanliandong Highway leading to Xinhua County. Sanliandong Highway is the main arterial road connecting Zhuobi Village and Xinhua County and an important “lifeline” for the all-for-one tourism of Xinshao County and Xinhua County. President Chen required that the assistance team stationed in the village should complete the project on schedule, with both quality and quantity guaranteed, to further lay a good foundation for Zhuobi Village to develop rural tourism and achieve rural revitalization.

Then,President Chen came to the anti-static glove processing workshop,a poverty alleviation project in Zhuobi Village. She learned about and highly affirmed the work the assistance team had done to the development of the workshop. She pointed out that efforts must be devoted to the industrial poverty alleviation which has always been the key link in poverty alleviation. She urged that the poverty alleviation team stationed in the village should consider the local conditions and make full use of the advantages of local human resources to establish a good interest linkage mechanism and to develop fine and distinctive industrial products. That will help the local poor people increase income, expand the village’s source of income, and powerfully guarantee the poverty alleviation achievements of Zhuobi Village, she added.

Subsequently, under the scorching sun, President Chen and her delegation walked along the rugged mountain road to visit the houses of Cai Liuji, Wang Yiru, Peng Youzhong, Peng Peng, Peng Xiaoli, and Peng Zushan, respectively. President Chen and her delegation sent the condolencepayments to the 6 impoverished families and inquired about the details of their current situations, the assistance they had received, and their remaining difficulties.

After the visit, President Chen noted, “In the closing year for winning a decisive victory in poverty alleviation, despite the impact of the epidemic, we must always maintain our determination for and confidence in the victory in poverty alleviation. Under the strong leadership of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, we must earnestly implement such policies as industrial and employment poverty alleviation,and monitor and guarantee the continuity of poverty alleviation; we must vigorously promote the construction of relevant poverty alleviation projects, consolidate the fruits of poverty alleviation, and integrate village assistance with the rural revitalization strategy, to provide wide channels for people to get out of poverty.
