2020-02-10
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, many alumni of HUTB have showed their love for their hometown. Recently, the news that the Hunanese Association in the U.K collected overseas anti-epidemic materials for their hometown has gone viral on line. Xiong Peng, a HUTB alumnus majoring in information management in the class of 1999 is right one of the organizers of this event.
Xiong Peng went to study in the UK in 2002 and then started his business there after completing the MBA course. Now Xiong Peng serves as CEO of UK Zhongjie Information Technology Co., Ltd., Executive Director of Yuan Capital Ltd., and Director of Rice Coming Catering Group. Besides, Xiong Peng actively engages himself in social welfare undertakings. He also acts as President of the Hunan Chamber of Commerce in the U.K and an overseas member of Hunan Overseas Chinese Federation. After the onset of COVID-19, the Hunan Chamber of Commerce in the U.K, the Hunanese Association in the U.K, and the Alumni Association of Xiang Chinese in the U.K actively responded to the initiative of Hunan Overseas Chinese Federation. These institutions organized the Chinese in the U.K to donate funds and goods, purchased medical supplies with these donations, and directly sent these goods to the domestic medical staffin the front line. In just two weeks, these Hunanese in the UK have sent three batches of medical supplies worth over RMB1.03 million through the convenient luggage consignment service of Hainan Airlines’ direct fight to Changsha. This batch of medical materials including protective clothing and N95 masks urgently needed by hospitals have been successively distributed to targeted hospitals in 14 cities including Changsha, Xiangtan, Zhuzhou, Changde, Yueyang, Loudi, Hengyang, Chenzhou, and Zhangjiajie, effectively alleviating the shortage of medical materials in these regions. “As long as our motherland needs us, we overseas Chinese will fight side by side with domestic people to unremittingly strive for the victory in the anti-epidemic battle,” Xiong Peng said.
Recently, facing the severe epidemic prevention and control situation, HUTB alumni have all responded to the national call. They took advantage of their business industries to donate materials to the society and worked together to fight the epidemic and overcome the difficulties.
“No one can be unaffected by the epidemic. We do what we can to support the anti-epidemic work,” said Shu Bin, a HUTB alumnus majoring in marketing in the class of 2012, when telling the reporter about his original intention. Shu Bin donated 370,000 medical protective masks to the Union Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Shu Bin serves as the founder of the community operation platform, “Haitunshenghuo”. He actively contacted a large number of suppliers with wide channels to quickly confirm the source of goods. The two batches of medical masks Shu Bin managed to purchase were finally transported to the Union Hospital on January 26 and 31, respectively.
On February 6, Hunan Cihui Medical Technology Co., Ltd., whose Chairman, Jiang Yonghui, majored in marketing at HUTB in the class of 1998, donated 1800 bottles of Healthy Antibacterial Liquid to Pozi Subdistrict, Tianxin District, Changsha City, with a total worth of RMB200,000. Such type of antibacterial liquid is safe and non-toxic, mainly applicable to antibacterial disinfection for hand skin. With remarkable effect, such antibacterial liquid can help the anti-epidemic workers on the frontline with disinfection and protection.
While actively contributing to the epidemic prevention in the affected areas and the residential communities, our alumni also spared no effort to support their alma mater’s anti-epidemic work. Recently, Luo Junqiang, an alumnus majoring in accounting in the class of 1988 and current President of Shaoyang Alumni Association, helped HUTB procure a total of 19,600 masks in two batches when the University faced the shortage of anti-epidemic materials. “It’s my honor to do my part for my alma mater at the critical moment,” she said in an interview with the reporter on February 6.
Furthermore, Ning Songkai, an alumnus majoring in marketing in the class of 1996, donated 25 thermometers to HUTB and 10,000 masks to the local hospitals; Xie Hongbin, an alumnus majoring in marketing in the class of 1996, donated 50 pairs of goggles to HUTB; Zeng Wei, an alumnus majoring in marketing in the class of 2015, donated 2 barrels of alcohol to HUTB. “In the face of the severe epidemic prevention and control situation, the alumni make timely and efficient donation, demonstrating their great love and responsibilities for HUTB,” said Zhang Hong, director of the Alumni Office.
