Professor Liu Renhuai, the Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Being Invited To Give Lectures in Our University

On the afternoon of September 8, Liu Renhuai, the academician of China Academy of Engineering and professor of Jinan University was invited to give a lecture of "Chase Dreams For Hundreds of Years and Rejuvenate the County Through Science and Technology" for all teachers and students of HNUC Lushan Forum in F201 of Lezhi building. The university leaders, including Chen Xiaohong, Peng Jinqing, Chen Liying and Zeng Fuqiu, and more than 200 teachers and students attended the lecture, which was presided over by the president Chen Xiaohong.
The president Chen Xiaohong introduced the main experiences and academic achievements of Academician Liu Renhuai, and extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to him to make a lecture in our university at the beginning of the lecture.
Academician Liu Renhuai introduced the topic from Chinese Dream - "two one-hundred years" target, followed by utilizing demotic language, vivid examples and a large amount of data to interpret the human civilization changes in the history development. Then, he said that the human society was rapidly developed from splendid ancient Chinese civilization to contemporary natural science, after that, the great "Chinese Dream" was accordingly lifted in the low-carbon society construction process. He interpreted "Science and Technology Are the Core of Country Rejuvenation" with penetrating annotation during the lecture.
Academician Liu Renhuai vividly delivered the big philosophy in all kinds of small stories with his wide learning and retentive memory. Aiming at the well-known "Needhamrs Puzzle" - why China fails to develop the contemporary natural science, he enunciated his own views that the main reason was the problematic national management. The intellectuals ranked ninth in "officer, clerk, monk, Taoist priest, artisan, worker, huntsman, slaver, Confucianist and beggar" since Yuan Dynasty, therefore, China fell behind other countries and gradually declined caused by the disrespect of knowledge and talents. Finally, Academician Liu sent several words to the participating teachers and students, and hoped that they can have innovative spirits and firmly believe that the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation will be certainly realized. The abundant and elegant lecture, which included substantial contents and copious quotation, won warm applause of all teachers and students from time to time.
Then, the president Chen Xiaohong made a brief summary. She pointed out that the national identity of Academician Liu was impressive and admirable. All students shall learn from him to revitalize science and technology, as well as our country. She hoped that all participants will be enlightened from the lecture, make efforts and contributions for the country development and technical power realization.
As the well-known expert in engineering mechanics and management science, the Academician Liu Renhuai was elected as an academician of Machinery and Carrier Engineering Department of Chinese Academy of Engineering in November 1999. He was approved to be an academician of Engineering Management Department of Chinese Academy of Engineering in September 2000. Besides, he worked as a teacher in Lanzhou University, University of Science and Technology of China, Shanghai University of Technology and Jinan University successively. He was invited to serve as Alexander von Humboldt Fellow and guest professor in West Germany and visiting professor in Ruhr University in 1981. He held the post of president in Jinan University from 1995 to 2006. Now, he serves as a member of School Boards of Trustees, professor, superintendent of Institute of Applied Mechanics as well as the director of Strategic Management Research Center. He has published 13 academic works and more than 400 academic papers, besides, compiled 9 academic books till now. It is worth mentioning that he has won the first prize and second prize of Provincial and Ministerial-level Science and Technology Progress Prize and Natural Science Prize for four and three times respectively (what's more, he is the unique winner or the first winner), the second prize of National Teaching Achievements Prize for one time, the first prize of Guangdong Province Teaching Achievements Prize for three times (both all the first winner), the National Excellent Intellectual about Returned Overseas Chinese and Relatives of Overseas Chinese, National Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions, Special Government Allowance issued by State Council, Guangdong Province Model Worker, highest achiever of Japan Innovation University, Chinese Excellent Visitor of Hong Kong Polytechnic University and other awards.
