President Chen Xiaohong Reported in Tsinghua - Harvard International Symposium on Low Carbon Development

From June 2 to 3, the third Tsinghua - Harvard International Symposium on Low Carbon Development and Public Policy was held in Tsinghua University. Deputy minister Li Ganjie of Environmental Protection Ministry, deputy minister Li Meng of Science Ministry, deputy director He Minghong of National Natural Science Foundation of China, professor Shi Zongkai, deputy Party Secretary of Tsinghua University, professor Daniel Schrag, US presidential adviser of science and technology,professor Robert Stavins, director of Ph.D. Public Policy Project in Harvard University, professor Venkatesh Narayanamurti, former dean of Engineering and Applied Science School from Harvard University and a number of well-known professors at Kennedy School of Government from Harvard University and at School of Public Management, School of Economics and Management, School of Environmental Sciences from Tsinghua University attended the meeting.
This symposium is co-sponsored by Tsinghua University and Harvard University, and has been successfully held twice in 2014 and 2015. Its current session is held under the background of Paris Agreement and China's “13th Five-year” plan,about 100 senior scholars, government officials and professionals in this industry from the United States and China are invited to discuss the of public policies and practices in order to promote low-carbon development and the sustainable development of the global society and economy.
As a special guest, our school’s president Chen Xiaohong is invited by the organizing committee to present a report entitled “Practice of Resources-conserving and Environment-Friendly Society as Well as Ecological Civilization Construction---Experiences from Experimental Zone of Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan City Group”which comprehensively introduces the great achievements from three perspectives of theoretical thinking, practice and main initiatives, including a series of top-level designs, reforms of institutional mechanisms, practical measures, significant results, typical patterns and lessons learned. The report is received with widespread concern and inspires enthusiastic responses. Subsequently, President Chen Xiaohong has thorough dialogue and exchange with experts present on low-carbon development of local government and energies in rural areas and American experts launched, answers questions raised by the participants.Experts highly praise and appreciate the innovative approaches to build resources-conserving and environment-Friendly society and ecological civilization carried out in Hunan Province.
President Chen Xiaohong’s being invited to such grand international Symposium jointly organized by the Sino-US and delivering keynote speech, showcases the school’s representative achievements and research capabilities, creates conditions for high-level international cooperation and exchange, effectively enhance the international influence and academic reputation of the school, and therefore create a favorable external environment for the school to implement the "Three Promotions", "School- district Cooperation" strategy.
