HUTB Sets New Record at 6th Hunan Teaching Innovation Contest for College Teachers

On April 27, the on-site provincial final of the 6th Hunan Teaching Innovation Contest for College Teachers, organized by the Department of Education of Hunan Province, concluded at Hunan Institute of Science and Technology. 8 HUTB faculty members (teams) delivered strong performances on site, securing 7 first prizes and 1 second prize—a historic high for the university. HUTB has now received the competition’s “Excellent Organization Award” for four consecutive years.

A total of 478 faculty teams from 52 regular higher education institutions (including independent colleges) across Hunan Province competed in the provincial contest. Following an anonymous online review by experts, only 152 teams advanced to the on-site finals. HUTB ranked among the province’s top institutions in both the number of teams advancing to the finals and the number of first-prize awards secured. The finals featured nine competitive categories: New Engineering, New Liberal Arts, New Medical Science, New Agricultural Science, Basic Courses, Curriculum Ideology and Politics, Industry-Education Integration, Artificial Intelligence, and Experimental Teaching. The competition format was rigorous and standardized: participants delivered 12-minute presentations on their teaching innovation achievements, followed by an 8-minute Q&A session with the expert panel focusing on instructional design, innovative highlights, and practical outcomes.
Since the launch of the competition in October 2025, the CPC HUTB Committee has attached great strategic importance to the event, with the Undergraduate School coordinating closely with all secondary schools to deploy meticulous preparations. To thoroughly refine the entries, showcase the university’s teaching reform achievements, build a high-caliber contingent of participating faculty, and continuously elevate teaching innovation capabilities, the university organized rigorous on-campus preliminary and final rounds. Out of 24 outstanding faculty teams recommended by various schools, 15 emerged as top performers to represent HUTB in the provincial contest. Since the start of the current semester, the Undergraduate School has rolled out a continuous series of targeted training sessions, expert lectures, and multiple rounds of intensive polishing guidance. Invited on-campus and off-campus teaching experts provided comprehensive, refined, one-on-one coaching for the participants, focusing on outcome reports, instructional design, and teaching video recordings. This holistic support system was instrumental in driving quality improvements and ensuring the teams performed at their peak.
