Pursue light in the new era and forge ahead with HUTB. On September 9, the university held a briefing session to study and implement the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, along with the 2024 Autumn Semester Work Conference and the celebration of the 40th Teachers' Day, at the Xiangjiang Lecture Hall in Xiangjiang Building. Chief leaders including Chen Xiaohong, Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and CAE Academician, Liao Xiangyue, Deputy Director of CPC HUTB Committee and President of HUTB, Wang Minggao, Director of HUTB Academic Committee, along with other all university leaders, members of CPC HUTB Committee, and senior professors attended the conference. The conference was chaired by President Liao Xiangyue.

As the solemn national anthem played, the conference officially began.

Secretary Chen Xiaohong delivered a briefing on the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China at the conference. She provided in-depth explanations on four key aspects: "Deeply understanding the significant importance of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China," "Thoroughly grasping General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech at the session," "Comprehensively understanding the guiding ideology, overall goals, and major principles for further deepening reform," and "Fully grasping the major reform measures proposed at the session." She pointed out that the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China is a crucial meeting convened by our party at a key moment. By fully implementing the spirit of this session and steadfastly working towards perfecting and developing the socialist system with Chinese characteristics, as well as advancing the modernization of the national governance system and governance capabilities, the grand blueprint for Chinese-style modernization can gradually become a beautiful reality.

Secretary Chen Xiaohong emphasized that the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has sounded the horn for further deepening reform and advancing Chinese-style modernization. The blueprint has been drawn, and to pursue our dreams, we must take action. We need to earnestly study and implement the spirit of the Third Plenary Session, deeply understand its essence, accurately grasp its core principles, and diligently put its goals into practice. By taking a higher stance, a broader perspective, and a greater effort, we can effectively leverage reform as a "key strategy." We should promote the integrated development of education, technology, and talent, while being pragmatic and focused on real results, ensuring that the spirit of the session takes root and flourishes in our university.

At the 2024 Autumn New Semester Work Conference, Secretary Chen Xiaohong delivered a speech themed "With Determination, Start Anew and Forge Ahead to Write a New Chapter." She summarized and reviewed the achievements of the first half of the year, systematically outlined the work plan for the second half, and further articulated the work requirements.

Secretary Chen Xiaohong pointed out that under the correct leadership of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the People's Government of Hunan Province, and with the strong support of various sectors of society, the CPC HUTB Committee has led the faculty, staff, and students to forge ahead, achieving a series of remarkable results in the university's construction and development. First, deeply studied and implemented Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; second, achieved new results in party building and ideological and political work; third, realized a new leap in the level and strength of education; fourth, showcased new achievements in education, teaching, and talent cultivation; fifth, reached new heights in technological innovation and the transformation of results; sixth, injected new vitality into the construction of the faculty team and cadres' work; seventh, achieved new successes in student organization work and services for faculty and students; eighth, elevated basic infrastructure and livelihood guarantee work to a new level.

Secretary Chen Xiaohong stated that these achievements are hard-won and the prospects are extremely promising. We must not become complacent due to temporary victories, nor should we rush for success simply because the situation looks favorable. We need to establish a "zero clearing" mindset, continue to promote the spirit of hard work and perseverance in our endeavors, regroup and start anew, and commit ourselves to diligent efforts in our work. We must resolutely advance the key tasks for the second half of the year. First, continue to deepen comprehensive reforms; second, keep advancing the construction of doctoral programs and "Double First-class" Initiative; third, continuously innovate educational and teaching models; fourth, persist in enhancing research strength and innovation capacity; fifth, consistently build a high-quality team of cadres and talents; sixth, continue to solidify livelihood guarantees; seventh, strengthen the safety and stability defenses on campus; eighth, continually improve the quality and effectiveness of party building and ideological and political work.

Secretary Chen Xiaohong put forward three work requirements: First, adopt a "zero-based" mindset to start anew, avoid complacency and impatience to stimulate development momentum, focus on improving internal capabilities to enhance vitality, and strive for progress to consolidate collaborative development efforts, pushing all aspects of the university's undertakings to new heights. Second, demonstrate responsibility through practical actions and results. The "key minority" should take the lead in implementation, improve oversight and evaluation to ensure effective execution, and shift work styles to focus on delivering results. We must strive to turn blueprints into actionable plans and translate policies into tangible outcomes. Third, pursue breakthroughs through reform and innovation, effectively implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue and nurturing talent, support high-quality economic and social development, ensure and improve people's livelihoods, and make new contributions to the construction of an education strong nation and the strategic goals of Hunan's "Three Highlands, Four New Missions."

At the celebration of the 40th Teachers' Day, Secretary Chen Xiaohong awarded prize to Nie Zhi, recipient of the 2024 "Model Teacher in Hunan Province" nomination award. Attending Chief Leaders, members of CPC HUTB Committee, and senior professors presented awards to representatives of teachers who won provincial-level and above teaching competition awards.

Yi Mianyang, Deputy Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, read out the HUTB's Decision Regarding the Recognition of the "30 Years of Teaching Honor" Awards for the Year 2024 and the HUTB's Decision Regarding the Recognition of the "My Favorite Teacher" Awards for the Year 2024.

Attending Chief Leaders, members of CPC HUTB Committee, and senior professors presented awards to teachers honored as "30 Years of Teaching Honor" and "My Favorite Teacher." They also gave commemorative gifts and the book "The Spirit of Scientists: Education" to representatives of new teachers.

Kuang Yumei, CPC Committee Secretary of the School of Sports and Health, spoke as a representative of the award-winning teachers recognized as "30 Years of Teaching Honor." She expressed her pride in witnessing the beautiful transformation of HUTB as a teacher there, and sincerely wished for the continued success of the university, extending her wishes for a happy Teachers' Day to all her colleagues. Mo Jiaojiao, a teacher from the School of Foreign Languages, spoke at the event as a representative of the award-winning teachers recognized as "My Favorite Teacher". She stated that she will approach every task with a strong sense of responsibility, fully utilize the university's technological advantages, and strive to embody the mission of the School of Foreign Languages to "Reach the World through Language," aiming to create an even more glorious future for HUTB. Guo Ziyan from the Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies spoke at the event as a representative of the new teachers. He expressed his intention to quickly adapt to the new environment and to diligently cultivate his work in teaching and research. He expressed his commitment to embodying the university motto of "Sincerity & Credibility; Pragmatism & Innovation," stating, "Chase the light along the way, have light in your eyes, shine from within, and contribute to the development of the university."

In recent years, CPC HUTB Committee has placed a high priority on the construction of the faculty team. It has consistently deepened the study and implementation of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important statements on education and the spirit of the National Education Conference. The university is committed to fulfilling the fundamental task of fostering virtue and nurturing talent, comprehensively deepening the reform of teacher development in the new era, and striving to build a high-quality, professional, and innovative faculty team that meets the expectations of the Party and the people. This work has achieved significant results, laying a solid talent foundation for the establishment of a distinctive, innovative, first-class technology and business university.
