Xiangjiang Laboratory Holds the Second Meeting of the 1st Academic Committee

On the morning of November 26, the Second Meeting of the 1st Academic Committee of Xiangjiang Laboratory was held at HUTB.
More than 20 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, including Lu Xicheng, He Jishan, Zhang Yaoxue, Lu Chunfang, Hou Zengqian, Ouyang Xiaoping, Yu Qifeng, Gui Weihua, Zhou Jianping, Zheng Jianlong, Luo An, Ling Wen, Liu Zejin, Fan Guobin, Wang Zhenguo, Liu He, Liu Yongjian, Chen Xiaohong, Wang Huaimin, Xiang Jinwu, Jiang Tao, Yang Hong, along with Li Zhijian, Secretary of the Leading CPC Group of and Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Hunan Province, Liu Zhongmin, a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering, Liu Zehong, Vice Chairman of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization, He Qinghua, Honorary Chairman of Sunward, Lu Kai, Dean of the College of Computer Science of National University of Defense Technology, Liu Feixiang, Chief Scientist of China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Corporation Limited, and relevant unit leaders attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Lu Xicheng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of the Academic Committee of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and a professor at the National University of Defense Technology.
During the opening ceremony, Chen Xiaohong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and Secretary of CPC HUTB Committee, delivered a speech. She pointed out that over the past year, the Xiangjiang Laboratory has worked sincerely and cooperatively with its partner institutions to seize the commanding heights of the development of the digital economy, especially in the field of artificial intelligence technology. High-level talents are accelerating their gathering, scientific and technological innovation is making positive progress, theoretical research and policy recommendations are yielding fruitful results, academic exchanges are showcasing integration highlights, deep cooperation with government and enterprises is being carried out, the entity-based operation is comprehensively promoted, and the construction of basic conditions is progressing rapidly, achieving a number of original and leading achievements.
Academician Chen Xiaohong hopes that the Academic Committee and all its members will continue to escort the construction and development of the Xiangjiang Laboratory, serving as a reliable "rudder" and a proficient "think tank", while uniting cohesive "centripetal force". They should actively establish a first-class domestic academic exchange platform, constantly broaden cooperation channels, and effectively carry out tasks such as academic decision-making and consultation, transformation of scientific research achievements, and cultivation of outstanding innovative talents. This will help the Xiangjiang Laboratory to accelerate its development at a high level of quality, and make a positive contribution to the establishment of Changsha as a global R&D center, providing strong support for stable and far-reaching economic and social development.
Li Zhijian, Secretary of the Leading CPC Group of and Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Hunan Province, addressed the opening ceremony. He stated that the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the People’s Government of Hunan Province attach great importance to scientific and technological innovation, and are fully promoting the construction of the "4+4 Science and Technology Innovation Project". Xiangjiang Laboratory, as an important part of this initiative, serves as a powerful lever to promote the development of the national digital economy, serve Hunan's strategic industries and future industrial development, and build a strategic scientific and technological force in the field of artificial intelligence and advanced computing. Since its establishment over a year ago, the Xiangjiang Laboratory, under the leadership of Academician Chen Xiaohong and Academician Lu Xicheng, has carried out a significant amount of scientific and technological innovation work and achieved good progress in its construction. It has played a leading and exemplary role among the "Four major laboratories" in Hunan Province. He hopes that all members will continue to work together to promote the construction of Xiangjiang Laboratory, further gather intellectual resources, focus on development goals, and serve local development, contributing greater strength to the high-quality development of Hunan's economy and society.
Subsequently, the participating academicians, leaders, and experts watched the promotional video of the Xiangjiang Laboratory. Liu Guoquan, Executive Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory and Vice President of HUTB, reported on the progress of the laboratory's construction over the past year from three aspects: an overview of the preliminary work, the achievements of scientific and technological innovation, and the next step in the work plan. The participants conducted in-depth discussions around the management and operation mode of the Xiangjiang Laboratory, its strategic development direction, focusing on national and Hunan needs, and the cultivation of young talents. They put forward a series of constructive opinions and suggestions.
During the evaluation meeting of major projects, key projects, and general projects at the Xiangjiang Laboratory, the attending academicians and experts asked questions and conducted a comprehensive review of each project on the spot. They selected and recommended priority-supported projects, key-supported projects, and general-supported projects. The meeting also carried out inspections and acceptance of relevant scientific research projects.
In the afternoon, the Xiangjiang Advanced Interdisciplinary Forum was held. The first and second stages of the forum were respectively hosted by Yang Hong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the chief designer of the space station system of the China Manned Space Program, and Liu He, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Deputy Director of the Strategic Research Center of Oil and Gas Resources.
Ouyang Xiaoping, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and researcher at the Northwest Institute of Nuclear Technology, presented an academic report titled "Technological Strategies for Developing High-Energy-Density Lithium Batteries".
Ling Wen, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a member of the Party Group of the People’s Government of Shandong Province, Chairman of Shandong Association for Science & Technology, and Chair Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, presented an academic report titled "Exploration and Practice of Zero-Carbon Smart Highways".
Wang Huaimin, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and former Vice President of the National University of Defense Technology, who presented on "Core Software System and Open Source Ecology for China's Computing Network".
Fan Guobin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and former deputy chief engineer of China Academy of Engineering Physics, presented an academic report titled "The Development of the Nuclear Medical Industry is Flourishing".
Xiang Jinwu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and former dean of the School of Aeronautic Science and Engineering at Beihang University, delivered an academic report titled "Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Leading the New Era of Intelligent Transportation".
Liu Zehong, Executive Vice Chairman of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization, who presented on "Inclusive, Just, and Resilient Transformation of Global Energy: Plans and Practices";
Liu Feixiang, chief scientist of China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Corporation Limited, who presented on "Research and Application of Digital Prototyping and Digital Twin Technology for Underground Engineering Equipment".
The excellent academic lecture shared the most cutting-edge scientific and technological innovations, allowing HUTB's faculty and students to have a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the latest progress in international and domestic scientific and technological development. It broadened their horizons, enhanced their confidence, and further strengthened everyone's determination to explore innovation and achieve the goal of self-reliant scientific research.
