Cao Zhiqiang, Vice Governor of the People’s Government of Hunan Province, Conducts Inspection and Research at Xiangjiang Laboratory

On the morning of July 18, Cao Zhiqiang, a member of the CPC Leadership Group of the People's Government of Hunan Province and Vice Governor, led a team to investigate the Xiangjiang Laboratory. He emphasized the importance of deeply studying and implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speeches and directives from his visit to Hunan. The focus should be on national strategic needs, leveraging Hunan's unique advantages to advance technological innovation, and accelerating the development of new quality productive forces with distinct Hunan characteristics. Chen Xiaohong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, and Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee, accompanied the delegation during their visit.
The inspection was attended by Chen Zhuoyi, Deputy Director of the General Office of the People's Government of Hunan Province, Zhu Wan, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Hunan Province, Wang Wei'an, Director of the Industry and Information Technology Department of Hunan Province, Liao Xiangyue, Deputy Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee and President of HUTB, Liu Guoquan, Executive Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory, Yi Mianyang, Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory and Deputy Secretary of the CPC HUTB Committee, and Hu Chunhua, Deputy Director of Xiangjiang Laboratory.
Vice Governor Cao Zhiqiang and his team conducted an on-site inspection of the Xiangjiang Laboratory's Exhibition Hall for Scientific Research Achievements, Intelligent Logistics Laboratory, and the Cultural and Technological Integration Innovation Center. They watched promotional videos about the lab and its innovations, and toured seven original products developed by the lab, including multimodal AI large models, industrial operating systems, and Metaverse technologies. They also reviewed major project outcomes such as humanoid robots, intelligent robots, brain-inspired universal control systems, intelligent micro-expression recognition systems, and full-function motion capture systems, as well as cultural and technological fusion innovation products like audio-video generation large models, virtual digital humans, AR avatars, and cloud-based cultural museums. Additionally, they learned about the progress of the lab’s frontier research teams and the status of its major authorized patents. Vice Governor Cao Zhiqiang also examined the Xiangjiang Laboratory's compilation of scientific achievements and the latest scientific theoretical works by Academician Chen Xiaohong’s team, and gave high praise.
Academician Chen Xiaohong introduced the basic overview and construction achievements of the Xiangjiang Laboratory. She noted that, as the first provincial laboratory was established, it has continuously enhanced its operational level under the strong leadership of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the People’s Government of Hunan Province. The lab has assembled a high-level team, including over 20 academicians and expert groups, and engaged in deep cooperation with more than 50 leading tech companies. It has released 7 original products and 46 scientific and technological achievements to the public and was recently approved as one of the first research institution intellectual property centers in Hunan Province. The laboratory will make every effort to promote the "Artificial Intelligence +" initiative, advance the integrated development of culture and technology, and accelerate the development of new quality productive forces. It aims to take the lead and set an example in areas such as collaborative scientific research, the production of scientific achievements, and the protection and utilization of intellectual property.
Vice Governor Cao Zhiqiang fully recognized the construction and development achievements of Xiangjiang Laboratory. He encouraged the laboratory to work diligently and explore boldly, leveraging its existing results and advantageous resources in advanced computing and artificial intelligence. He emphasized the need for the lab to further strengthen its role as a key player in the "4+4" scientific innovation project and to effectively support the high-quality development of the digital economy. Vice Governor Cao Zhiqiang also provided guidance on the laboratory’s high-quality operation, including the functional positioning of its scientific achievements, innovative applications, and performance enhancements.
