At the meeting, Secretary Chen Xiaohong conveyed warm greetings to the alumni on behalf of the university and provided them with an update on the university's construction and development. She stated that in 2024, the university summarized its 75 years of experience, particularly the achievements of the last decade. With unity and determination, the university focused on boosting initiative, pursuing transformation, enhancing core values, and promoting leapfrog development. This has led to the successful accreditation of our university as a doctoral degree granting unit, and the Management Science and Engineering discipline being approved as a first-level discipline authorized to offer doctoral degree programs. The university has surpassed its previous heights, accelerated its pace, and cultivated a warm and vibrant atmosphere.
Secretary Chen Xiaohong pointed out that over the past year, the university has made significant strides towards becoming a top-tier institution, achieving notable accomplishments in various aspects. The university's educational characteristics have become more distinctive, as it was approved as one of the first pilot units in Hunan Province for "promoting integrated reform of education, science, technology, and talent systems." Additionally, four new "New Engineering" schools and seven master's degree programs were added. The university's scientific and technological strength has grown stronger, winning prestigious awards such as the Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award and the He Liang He Li Foundation Science and Technology Achievement Award. The quality of talent cultivation has improved, with teachers winning 43 national and provincial teaching competition awards, and students earning over 800 national and provincial awards in academic competitions. The university's social service efforts have become more impactful, with the Xiangjiang Laboratory, led by the university, advancing deep collaborations with over 60 leading enterprises. The lab produced more than 10 original products, including the "Xuanyuan" AI pre-training series large models, and accelerated their commercialization. The quality of the university's infrastructure has also improved, with the first phase of the Moon Island campus completed and many construction projects steadily progressing. Cultural and sports activities have been vibrant, the safety standards have been strengthened, and the sense of happiness and security among teachers and students has been enhanced.
Secretary Chen Xiaohong emphasized that the university's development and achievements are inseparable from the support of its alumni. In particular, over the past year, alumni have actively responded to the "Alumni Returning to Hunan" call, fully leveraging their "home field" advantages. Some have returned with projects, others have opened doors for internships and employment for younger students, while some have made generous donations. Their contributions have helped build the university's development and enhanced the "Alumni Returning to Hunan" initiative. As a result, the university has ranked among the top in the province for the success of this initiative, with its talent recruitment and attraction ranking second in Hunan Province. In the new year, the university will focus on the theme of "promoting reform, enhancing vitality, strengthening characteristics, and developing a first-class university," vigorously advance the integrated development of education, science, technology and talent, and demonstrate the university’s stronger commitment and greater contribution to national prosperity and rejuvenation.

Huang Xingyao, President of the Changsha Alumni Association, delivered a speech at the meeting. He stated that the growth of the Changsha Alumni Association is inseparable from the support and assistance of both the alma mater and the alumni. Alumni associations should further strengthen communication and collaboration, work together, and contribute wisdom and strength to the construction of the alma mater. Vice President Gan Dejian and President Huang Xingyao awarded recognition to two alumni with Special Contribution Awards and more than 20 outstanding alumni workers. On behalf of the alumni, Tan Xiancai, Chairman of the Alumni Entrepreneur Association, Wei Hongzhang, President of the Shenzhen Alumni Association, and renowned alumni Hu Youde extended their blessings to the alma mater and the Changsha Alumni Association.
