This marks the university’s second discipline to enter the global top 1% of ESI this year, following the Computer Science discipline in January 2026. With this milestone, HUTB now boasts three disciplines—Engineering, Computer Science, and Social Sciences, General—ranking among the global top 1% of ESI. This achievement signifies a substantial leap in the university’s international academic influence and core competitiveness, injecting robust momentum into the high-quality development of its disciplinary layout at the launch of the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

ESI is an internationally authoritative bibliometric database developed by Clarivate Analytics, built upon the Web of Science Core Collection (SCIE/SSCI/AHCI). It covers over 12,000 leading academic journals worldwide and more than 10 million indexed records. ESI is globally recognized as a core evaluation tool for measuring the international academic impact and influence of universities, research institutions, and national/regional systems. Ranking among the global top 1% of ESI disciplines stands as a critical benchmark for evaluating a discipline’s international competitiveness.

This achievement represents a major breakthrough for HUTB under its institutional framework of “parallel excellence in business and engineering, supported by arts and sciences, and driven by interdisciplinary integration.” It serves as a vivid practice of the university’s commitment to serving national strategies and regional development. Standing at the new starting point of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, HUTB will seize this momentum to further strengthen the guiding role of discipline development, optimize the academic ecosystem, and advance interdisciplinary convergence. The university aims to continuously enhance the core competitiveness and comprehensive influence of its disciplines, elevating its academic standing to new heights. This will inject stronger momentum into HUTB’s pursuit of high-quality, connotative development, while contributing significantly to the national initiatives of building a leading educational powerhouse and a culturally strong nation.
