2020-10-12

With great emphasis from relevant leaders, the course team of “Reception Industry Management” in the School of Tourism Management gave a meticulously prepared trial lesson, marking the start of the school's reform of curriculum-basedideological and political education. This lesson is a further response to General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instruction that “all courses, not merely the ideological and political theory course, are responsible for ideological and political education”. Through such lessons, the course team aims to strategically build the overall system of ideological and political education curriculum and to realize the general requirements of synergy between the ideological and political theory course and other courses. The course team hopes that by continuously practicing and summarizing experience, they can creatively transform the main channel of talent cultivation from the “ideological and political course” to the three-dimensional “curriculum -based ideological and political education".

In the new semester starting in September, the first lesson of the “Reception Industry Management” of the School of Tourism Management was held in the Yingcai Lecture Hall of the main campus of Hunan University of Technology and Business (HUTB). He Tianxiang, Dean of the school attended the event and delivered a speech, and Guo Yihong, Vice Party Secretary-General, presided over this event. The attending students came from 4 representative classes among the total 12 ones, namely, Class 1801 of Tourism Management, Class 1802 of Hotel Management, and Class 1901 and Class 1902 of Tourism Management. Wearing uniform custom T-shirts and masks, the classmates took their seats for this lesson in an orderly manner.

Before the class began, all teachers and students stood up and sang the national anthem in high spirit. With the singing of the solemn national anthem, the first lesson in the new semester kicked off. In the first stage, ChenWen, the teacher in charge of the “Reception Industry Management” course, as well as Li Yingjun and Li Wanqiong, the lecturers of the course team, made respective speeches. These teachers hoped that the students can uphold the mission of “Love the motherland, live up to youth, engage in tourism, and serve the society”, actively participate in class interaction, do well in thinking, and strive for innovation. Besides, the teachers also highlighted the core position of this course in the professional learning of tourism management, and shared their views from the relationship between course learning and talent training goals to the goals, contents, methods, and gains of course learning. Dean He fully affirmed the new teaching method for the first lesson of the “Reception Industry Management”, and especially stressed that moral education should be prioritized in talent cultivation in the new era. Meanwhile, he encouraged students to value the professional theoretical learning in the classroom and actively participate in social practices. He expected that this course can allow students to experience the school's new three-dimensional education reform.

In the second stage, Liao Shuangyin, former Deputy Director of the Changsha Municipal Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio, and Television, and a second-level investigator, gave a wonderful special lecture themed “Rural tourism is a vast area where much can be accomplished”. By presenting rich pictures and massive classic cases, he analyzed the development prospects of rural tourism and encouraged students to strive to become the most needed and valuable talents in rural tourism.

Under the collaborative guidance of the internal full-time teachers of the course team and the external industry experts, the students interacted enthusiastically, signing on the signature wall and expressing their determination to learn the professional basic theoretical knowledge well and to actively participate in social practices with what they learned. This event is a bold and beneficial trial the School of Tourism Management has made in three-dimensional ideological and political education. In future, all members of the course team will carry out a series of activities to explore the path of student cultivation. The course teachers will keep up with the school’s development pace and integrate the industry needs, in a bid to provide more innovative, entrepreneurial and applied tourism management talents for the society.
