2020-09-23
On the afternoon of September 22, the School of Law & Public Administration held a welcome meeting for its new postgraduate students enrolled in 2020 at the Conference Room of Lezhi Building. This meeting was attended by Dean Liu Qixiang, Party Secretary-General Hu Yanxiang, Vice Party Secretary-General Yuan Lu, and Vice Dean Luo Huping, as well as some postgraduate tutors and all the new postgraduate students enrolled this year. Among them, Ms. Hu served as Presiding Leader.

The meeting kicked off with all attendees’ singing the national anthem. First of all, Ms. Hu extended her warm welcome to the new postgraduate students. Then, she introduced the school’s postgraduate tutors one by one, and saluted them for their devotion to education and scientific research.
On behalf of tutors, Cao Hongbing gave these students a speech themed “Sailingthrough wind and waves to pursue dreams”. Focusing on the three key words of “congratulations”, “seriousness”, and “health”, she expressed her sincere hope for the class in a witty and plain manner. She congratulated the diligent and persevering students on their admission to the School of Law & Public Administration of Hunan University of Technology and Business (HUTB); she hoped that the students can take study and work seriously and keep learning; she gave these students three tips: intensively reading a high-quality essay every week, intensively reading a referee essay every week, and reading at least a soul-soothing book every month; she advised that the students should maintain mentally and physically healthy, because good health is the driver of life. Ms. Cao urged the new postgraduate students that they should seize the time to refine themselves with diligence, open-mindedness, and kindness; as Su Shi, the great poet in ancient China, said, “To what can we liken human life? Perhaps to a wild swan’s footprints on mud or snow", Ms. Cao hoped that every student can succeed in his future study and work; she also urged that each student should take an open-minded attitude toward life and work like the Chinesepoet Xin Qiji, who said “Charming are mountains green,I would expect the feeling to be Mutual, for we”.
Subsequently, Zhou Dongbo, on behalf of the postgraduate students enrolled in 2018, made a speech. Basing on his own practices and learning experience, he shared his thoughts and understandings from three aspects: self-positioning, life planning, and the importance of reading. He suggested that each student should cherish the learning opportunity to improve his overall quality. As a representative of the new postgraduate students in 2020, Guo Qingqing expressed her joy and gratitude for being admitted to HUTB and talked about her outlook on the postgraduate life. She said that she will stay true to her original aspiration and devote herself to the postgraduate study with pragmatism and innovation.
Dean Liu Qixiang addressed all the new postgraduate students. He reviewed the difficulties caused by the epidemic this year, shared his thoughts, and introduced the school’s advantages and development prospects. He urged the new postgraduate students to be proud of the school now and tobe the pride of the school in the future. He called on each student to be a mature, ambitious, and caring legal practitioner. He also hoped that each of them can “learn to be a wise legal practitioner” in the coming postgraduate study, and he put forward three expectations for them: First, as only a mature mind can turn knowledge into power, postgraduate students should face their emotions, control their desires, pay attention to their mind growth, and finally turn knowledge into their driving power. Second, it is necessary to acquire knowledge both from books and beyond books. Postgraduate students of the school should not only read, write, and practice, but also develop their EQ, IQ, and law quotient and be intelligent persons with plans. Third, postgraduate students should replace expectations with plans to control their own destinies. For the coming uncertainties, the wise way is to make a feasible plan and implement it. He emphasized that postgraduate students should take a correct academic attitude and stick to the lonely and tough academic road with pragmatism and devotion. He added that the postgraduate students should enhance their moral ethics and legal knowledge, light up their dreams, believe in the rule of law, refine their personalities, and strive to achieve their values.
This meeting has not only provided an opportunity for these new postgraduate students to know more about the school, but also strengthened the mutual understanding between teachers and students. Meanwhile, this meeting has encouraged these postgraduate students standing at a new starting point to forge valiantly ahead with dreams and to strive to be responsible, insightful, and ambitious youth in the new era.
