School of Literature & Journalism Holds Rehearsal Activities for Teachers’ Classroom Teaching Competition

On June 23, the School of Literature & Journalism held a classroom teaching rehearsal in Classroom F201 for the contestants who would participate in the University’s classroom teaching competition. Members of the School’s leadership team, department directors and some teachers were present at the rehearsal held based on the requirements of HUTB and the School’s practical conditions. By carrying out this activity, the School thoroughly implemented the guiding principles of the national and provincial education conferences and the conference on undergraduate education of national institutions of higher learning in the new era; the School adhered to the undergraduate education-oriented principle, promoted the concept of “Four Returns”, and enhanced the fundamental classroom teaching. All these efforts were made to efficiently improve the classroom teaching effects and the cultivating functions of curricula.

After recommendation and selection from all departments, the two teachers, Zhang Guoliang and Chen Xingjuan, would participate in University’s Classroom Teaching Competitions on behalf of the School of Literature & Journalism and the Chinese Department of Beijin College, respectively. The two teachers successively gave 15-minute classroom lectures in accordance with the requirements of the official competition, emotionally explaining the cutting-edge promotion trends, the biography of Zhang Liang, a famous politician in the Western Han dynasty, and other knowledge points. Their unique teaching methods and styles fully demonstrated the solid comprehensive qualities and basic teaching skills of the faculty.
After the rehearsal, the School held an on-site discussion meeting regarding the classroom teaching competition. Through brainstorming, all attendees analyzed the two teachers’ competition contents, teaching designs, PPT presentation, blackboard designs, teacher-student interactions and others, with revision suggestions proposed. In the next step, the School will also employ experts inside and outside the University to repeatedly refine the two contestants’ teaching performance. The meeting called on all departments and contestants to attach great importance to the competition and brainstorm the ideas to perfect the preparations, striving for the excellent performance in classroom teaching competitions at the university and provincial levels.
The School of Literature & Journalism has long been valuing the undergraduate teaching work and consistently refining teachers' classroom teaching methods and skills. The School encourages teachers to actively engage in the classroom teaching reform and innovation, extensively develops the discussion-based, heuristic, participatory, and case-based teaching, and promotes such new teaching modes as flipped classrooms and blended teaching. Through this competition, the teachers of this School have rapidly enhanced their teaching abilities, won high recognition in teaching effects, and formed a good atmosphere of helping and learning from each other for mutual progress within the School.
