The Third Summer Social Research Project of Young Teachers and Students in America Was Successfully Concluded

During the summer vacation, our university cooperated with China Service Center For Friendship and Cooperation with Foreign Countries to carry out the Third Social Research Project of Young Teachers and Students in America. Eight students in Hunan University of Technology and Business, who had applied voluntarily and passed the qualification examination and comprehensive interview, went to California under the leadership of Ms. Jin Min from the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, and conducted a 21-day social research in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Teachers and students went to UCLA, UC Berkeley and Stanford University to carry out interviews and studies, and conducted a comparative study on the teaching environment and education system between China and America; they lived in American families, experienced American culture and customs, and conducted research on the current situation of family education and resident culture between China and America; they investigated the industrial water plants in Orange County, California, and made a comparative study on Sino-US ecological and environmental protection; they also investigated local police stations and fire stations, and made a comparative study on Sino-US social functions and public safety systems; they participated in various public service activities organized by local state-run volunteer organizations, and conducted research on the current situation of public service organizations and volunteer services between China and America.

Teachers and students had a class discussion based on the information collected in the field survey and their own personal feelings. Through the active thinking and great enthusiasm for learning, they put forward a series of questions to American teachers on the five themes of the survey. The discussion was lively and the classroom atmosphere was active. Heuristic and deliberative teaching methods could not only make students' thinking more actively, but also improve the students' English expression and communication ability, which opened up research ideas for future academic research, laid a certain research foundation, and further clarified the ideas and directions in the future academic and professional development.

Through the research, teachers and students have broadened their horizons, updated their ideas, and improved their international literacy. They also have fully demonstrated the diligent and innovative spirit of Hunan University of Technology and Business students in the project, spreading Chinese culture and China's ever-changing prosperity and development to the world. Teachers and students said they would use what they have learned in social research to guide their work and study in the future. International Exchange and Cooperation Office will build more and better learning platforms for the cultivation of socialist builders and successors with all around development of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetics and labor education, and contribute to the improvement of the quality of talent cultivation and the realization of the strategic development objectives of our university.
