The Second Debate Competition for Graduate Students Held in Our University

The final round of the second debate competition for graduate students in Hunan University of Commerce ended on the night of April 12 in the classroom 104 of Lingnan Campus. There were four teams selected from every School.
In the preliminary round on April 10, Party Branch secretary Tan Junliang, deputy dean Yin Bibo, office director Ren Zhi from Graduate School, senior debate adviser Jang Hanfu from School of Economy and Trade and excellent debaters Fang Yuan and Wu Na in last year’s debate served as judges .
The debate was heated on the topic “whether college students’ starting a business does more good than harm or more harm than good”. The first competition involved representatives from School of Economy and Trade and representatives from Law School. Both sides grasped the core of the topic, attacking their counterpart in a fierce way with many entrepreneurship cases which led to an atmosphere of tension and vigor during the whole competition. The second competition was between representatives from School of Business Administration and representatives from Institute of Economic and Trade Development. Both sides adopted attack and defense strategy and had the war of words toward the topic of advantages and disadvantages on college students starting a business. And the audience was absorbed in the hot debate. The third competition involved joint representatives from School of Tourism Management and School of Business Administration and representatives from School of Accounting. With full preparation, all the six debaters performed excellently in attacking their counterparts and strived for the best in free debate with a tremendous momentum. Finally, according to the judges’ scores, four teams entered the final competition ---they were representatives from School of Economy and Trade, representatives from School of Business Administration, representatives from Institute of Economic and Trade Development, joint representatives from School of Tourism Management and School of Business Administration.
The final debate was held at 7.pm, April 12, four teams selected from in the last match had a debate on “whether the Wechat has improved the interpersonal relationship or not”. The first round was between School of Business Administration and Institute of Economic and Trade Development. The affirmative proved that Wechat had great effects on rate and frequency of communication and improved interpersonal relations. While he negative emphasized communication via Wechat could not replace facial expressions, gestures as well as language communications. Instead if people relied much on the Wechat to communicate, the connection between family members and relatives would be weakened. It was a toss up between this two teams and hard to decide the winner. The second debate was between representatives from School of Economy and Trade and joint representatives from School of Tourism Management and School of Business Administration. Their debate was also hot. The affirmative appeared to be extremely clear in thinking and threatened the negative who in turn stood firm and gave counterattacks. After these two fantastic matches, teacher Jiang Hanfu gave some comments. First, she affirmed the cooperation and competitive spirit of all the debaters. Then, she analyzed this topic, and shared with us some skills on how to understand the topic, how to make a point and how to fight against the other side. She also told us that arguers should be cooperative, calm and responsive.
At last, representatives from School of Economy and Trade became the champion, and representatives from School of Business Administration ranked the second. Representatives from Institute of Economic and Trade Development and joint representatives from School of Tourism Management and School of Business Administration ranked the third. Four Students, Peng Mixiang, Li Yan, Zhao Heng, and Zhou Hongyang were awarded the “Excellent Debater” respectively.
