School of Art and Design Organized Voluntary Service to Care About Autistic Children

2016-06-20

To vigorously advocate Lei Feng spirit and follow the voluntary service principle “dedication, love, mutual help and progress”, School of Art and Design organized student volunteers to provide services for autistic children in Kaiyin Children Education Development Center on the morning of March 17th. The activity was led by mentor Liu Li and Yu Chaoxia and more than 20 volunteers participated.

Volunteers brought crayons, paperboards, kites, windmills and so on for the children and did physical training hand in hand with the children. They stood against the volunteers at the beginning but later through one-to-one communication and interaction, they became familiar with the volunteers and could interact with each actively and harmoniously. The joyful and sweet scenes warmed all the hearts of the children and parents there. Teachers of the Center show their great gratitude for the care and support to the autistic children from HUC, hoping that there will be more such activities.

It was the first time for a lot of volunteers to contact with autistic children, but a short period of stay brought them intense shock. They said it was necessary to call for more people to care about and help autistic children, hoping that they would have more opportunities to participate in such activities. Liu Li said that the volunteer activities organized by the School enhanced students' awareness to give thanks and to serve for the society, improved their ability of social practice and let Lei Feng spirit better carried on.
