[Rednet] A Dialogue Between Father of “Ant Tribe” and Hunan Youth: Work Down to Earth and Harbor Beautiful Dreams

Changsha Rednet reported on April 23 (journalist/ Liu Yibin, correspondent/ Liu Longteng) On the morning of April 23, Lian Si, a doctoral supervisor from University of International Business and Economics, the first person to come up with the notions of “Ant Tribe”, and “Worker Bees”, delivered in Hunan University of Commerce a lecture with the theme “Uniting Youth Power to Realize the Chinese Dream---Reflections on Youth Value Changes and the Ideological Work”.
“Ant Tribe”, a phrase coined by Lian Si who has written a book with the same name, has been widely accepted among the public and has been attracting extensive attention across the country. For years, Lian Si has been to more than 20 counties and cities with his research group for large scale investigations, interviewing over 3000 youths who work in hospitals, factories, communities and hair salons along the Tengchong---Aihui Population Belt(population geographical lines put forward by famous geographer Hu Huanyong in 1935), Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong Pearl River Delta. Lian Si and his team have been committing to unveiling the current living situation of “Worker Bees”, migration youth, to the public and stand at the forefront of tracing Chinese youth problems.
After sharing his 3-year experience of living with “Ant Tribe”, young people in the basement of Tangjialing in Beijing, Lian Si points, in fast-developing first-tier cities, young people are facing numerous problems and puzzles and experiencing great pressure from family and society. The disappointing life situations make them feel a sense of injustice.
He indicates, with the rapid development of information network, the sense of time, distance and position of young people has experienced a great change. Since contemporary young people have strong self-consciousness, we should find new ways and methods to bring them together to focus on the development of our country, and carry out ideological education invisibly and acceptably by adopting means of lively expressive forms, excellent art and technology to model mainstream values, and let Chinese Dream lead Young People’s Dream.
Lian Si sends sincere wishes to young students of HUC: to seek for the truth and drive authority downwards, to be realistic and surefooted, to care deeply about the country and apply talent in an unrestrained and vigorous style. He encourages young people in the lecture to enhance their skills, work down to earth, harbor dreams and pave the way forward.
