[Xiaoxiang Morning News]A Paralyzed Girl Can Hardly Do Without Wheel Chair, 35 Classmates Help Her Go to Class in Turn

2016-06-20

Changsha Rednet reported on March 4 (Zhang Shubo/journalist of Xiaoxiang Morning News; Li Xiang/intern journalist) we inevitably have to deal with others in a strange city. Your small acts of kindness may be a great help to others.

Chen Wang, a student in Hunan University of Commerce, got paralyzed in an accident. Her 35 classmates have become her legs and help her go to class every day.

Three days ago, a seven-year-old child Hanhan with brain paralysis got lost beside Outangpo Bus Station on Xiangzhang Road. 24 hours later, family members of Hanhan got the phone call informing Hanhan had been found by a couple and sent to the police station.

A support or a phone call is just a simple gesture but passes love and warmth.

At 11:45 a.m, March 3, when the bell rang, there was a special picture in the crowds: a girl sent downstairs by a boy with “Princess embrace” was then sent to the dormitory by two girls.

This girl is Chen Wang who lost consciousness below the waist at the age of ten and has to be supported by wheelchair. Chen Wang was admitted into Hunan University of Commerce a year ago. And since then, her 35 classmates have become her legs and send her to and from classes.

Wishes from Classmates:

We Are Willing to Be Your Wings.

On the morning of the 3rd, Chen Wang sat in the first row of a classroom on the third floor of the first teaching building in Hunan University of Commerce, studying with other classmates.

As the bell rang, Chen Wang kept sitting there. Several classmates then came to her: a boy picked her up and the girls next to her took her books, going downstairs together. In the stairwell, Chen Wang’s wheelchair was placed there. Her classmates would repeat these actions every day for her.

“Twelve boys are responsible for holding her upstairs, and twenty-three girls are responsible for taking her downstairs,” the monitor, the twenty-year-old Chen Weibao said, since the first day of school, students in her class have taken on the responsibility of ferrying her to classrooms. “All of them are trying their best to help her. If delayed by something, they will alternate with other students in advance.”

When they have tests, some students even will hand in their papers a few minutes earlier in order to wait for her outside the classroom. On the campus, even strange students will lend her a hand. A female student even helped to take her upstairs.

In order to encourage Chen Wang, students in her class took a series of photos on Thanksgiving Day last year. They held cards full of wishes to Chen Wang in the photo, with one of the cards saying: if you want fly, we are willing to be your wings.

Gratitude of Mother and Daughter

The Gratitude in Heart Couldn’t Be Expressed in Words

At noontime, Chen Wang went to the girl’s dormitory with the help of her classmates while her mother Luo Shuqing was doing some cleanings. Luo Shuqing has come to Changsha to accompany her daughter since Chen Wang entered the university and the school arranged her to be a cleaner.

Luo Shuqing, now 42 years old, said that they came from Xiangxi and had three children among whom Chen Wang was the oldest. However, Chen Wang lost consciousness from the waist down in an accident at the age of ten. Chen Wang hasn’t become any better though they went to many hospitals and has to rely on a wheelchair in her daily life.

Chen Wang sitting on bed is dressed simply always with a big smile on her face. She says she wanted to have good relations with her classmates when she was a freshman. It surprises her that her classmates are so considerate to care for her in the daily life and help her to be among them.

“I have seldom been late for classes,” Chen Wang said, “my classmates will pick me up in advance if I have lessons from the time I entered this university up to now”. “Sometimes, someone had to skip breakfast in order to pick me up.”

For classmates and teachers, what Chen Wang says most is thanks. To express her gratitude to classmates, Chen Wang once took great effort in making a one-page PPT for everyone with her best wishes and appreciation she felt ashamed of expressing verbally.

Luo Shuqing said that she couldn’t express her gratitude in words either. The children left so fast after they sent her daughter to the dormitory that she even didn’t have time to invite them to have lunch together. “They even take my daughter for outing at weekend”, she said.

The School Exempts 4 years of Tuition

and Provides Job for the Mother.

“She is free from tuitions for four years.” said Zeng Lei, Cheng Wang’s headteacher. At the time of enrollment when teachers knew Chen Wang's special case, they sloped the stairs of the dormitory to facilitate the wheelchair up and down before the start of the school year. Knowing that Chen Wang’s mother wanted to accompany her, the university provided a room and a job for her mother.

"It's easy to start one thing, but it's hard to keep on doing it." Zeng Lei says, “We also want to thank Chen Wang. Because of her existence, the class becomes more united and the friendship between classmates are promoted”.
