Hunan Daily reporter: Liu Yinyan
Correspondent: Yang Jia
Business Card:
Wang Juan, female, born in May 1980, a teacher in Economy and Trade School, Hunan University of Commerce as well as a master tutor with doctor degree, has once been sent to U.S. for further study in government-sponsored project. In recent years, she has done a lot in guiding college students to start business innovatively. With her professional knowledge and care, she has successfully turned more than 20 students in "ivory tower" to "president or general managers" in companies.
Story:
With short hair up to the ears, simple clothing, pure smile, Wang Juan impressed the reporter more like a newly graduated female student than a teacher with 12-year teaching experience in the university.
Perhaps it is because of this, students like to call her "Sister Juan".
In Hunan University of Commerce, "Sister Juan" is popular among the students for her excellent teaching, and without any remuneration or payment, she enthusiastically guides her students to start business, 20 of whom have now achieved success.
"Starting business on campus has become a trend, and starters can always win more trust. If businesses started by professors or Ph.D.s are in the academic level, those started by college students should be their sub-class.” Said Wang Juan eloquently on September 28th .
"Students in our university are very innovative and passionate for starting business." Wang Juan said. In her class of Trade and Economy as well as Marketing, many sophomores start businesses. In her opinion, Passion alone is not enough.
So, when many students come to Wang excitedly with plan for business projects, she will say: "Dear, wait, let’s first make market analysis."
This done, at least six months has already passed.
"The essence of learning is to find the real problem, and the essence of starting a business is to accurately grasp the market demand." In order to be more efficient, Wang Juan believes that the first step students should take is to analyze the market on a macroeconomic level, and to carry out a survey of the related field.
Wang Juan’ "trump card" for market analysis is questionnaire design.
"Questionnaire design requires rigorous and scientific attitude, knowledge of current events, and a lot of relevant professional literature." Wang Juan told the reporters that 10 years ago, she helped professor Liu Siwei in Hunan University of Commerce who was then the provincial government adviser, to set up Research Center of Circulation Theory. She was mainly responsible for all details. She would often encourage students in the center to get in touch with enterprises in order to analyze the market in a deep way. One year, Changsha Hongxing market was facing the transformation and upgrading, she organized students to visit hundreds of companies, and complete more than 50 research reports, which had received high recognition by the leaders of the companies.
She also encouraged students in the center to actively integrate into the community, attracting extensive investment with good plans. A lot of well-known enterprises around the campus or elsewhere in the province have become the sponsors for activities held by the Research Center.
Students with these practical training are more likely to be successful, and many active members in the Research Center turned out to be successful too. Zou Xia, an introverted student from a poor family was asked to be responsible for the daily management of the Research Center at first who later grew to be able to work independently as the chairman. After graduation, she chose to start her own businesses, and is now CEO as well as shareholder of a well-known commercial advisory body, the annual turnover of which surpasses over 100 million yuan.
"Skills, along with wisdom, coordination, cooperation, and social adaptation together make contribution to students’ business projects and their projects should not only be evaluated by their profit." Students who are guided by Wang Juan to participate in marketing planning competition or business planning competitions, often win awards.
Tang Wang has organized 10 students from different departments to help small and micro enterprises explore overseas market on the basis of electronic business platform provided by Alibaba. "Sister Juan" often stressed Confucius’ remark "Jun zi bu qi" which here could be understood as “a man shouldn’t live like a tool to earn money”. “So as agents operating overseas business for enterprises, we don’t charge any fees in previous stage , but only demand commissions after every successful transaction." Tang Wang told the reporters.
"To carry out their business plans, students need investors, experts and successful entrepreneurs to help them." Wang Juan said as her specialty was to make theoretical analysis, she planned to establish the first student business alliance on campus, making it possible that college students with innovative ideas can meet influential investment institutions and enterprises, and therefore providing a platform for both supply and demand.
